Having owned both, the Stingray is just way above the Fenders. I have 2 Fenders an American original about 3 years old and a 66 reissue model. The reissue has a much fuller sound but the neck on the American made one has the slimmest neck on any bass I've ever used but a fairly thin sound. I've had active Bartollinis fitted but since I bought the stingray its not been out of its case.
