I just completed this. Thanks for the idea Dwells. :)

Mine was a tight squeeze in to the cavity, and the stock screw holes that were already there were slighty to big to force through the small metal ring in the new pickup. It came with machine screws but not screws for direct mounting. I went to the hardware store and got some #4 5/8 inch pan head screws and ran them through a couple times until they went smooth.

Other then that no problems. Good luck telling the difference in my tone test. I would also like to try an EMG 60 which is listed as a metal rhythm pick up.

Thanks for the clips. They both sound great, but the 81 had a bit more treble to it. A little punchier, if you will.

From the sound clip I preffer the 85. Sounds more full whereas the 81 is on the trebly side. Thats my opinion from the sound clips Slingy provided...I can definitely hear the difference.

Emg89 ?

Wonder if anyone has tried an EMG89 in a Luke. I have an 89 in my Flying V along with as EMG SA (middle) and a Fernandes Sustainer (Neck) and it sounds really great.
The EMG89 is in effect 2 pickups in one housing, an EMG85 (Humbucker) and an EMG-SA (Single Coil) which you use either by push pull pot or a switch.
I find this very versatile as some of the songs our act covers can be Dire Straits/Pink Floyd (single coil) to Ozzy Osbourne/Queen (Humbucker) and its great to not have to switch guitars mid show.
