There is no magical "perfect" amp.

As for what might be best for you, there's no way anyone can help unless you first detail what kinds of music you play, your style, etc, and even that will be filtered by anyone else's preconceived notion of what a "perfect" tone is going to be.

I like flats. If you like stainless steel rounds, my perfect tone and yours are not going to be even remotely similar.

The Stingray will make magic into any amp but if you want some good amps to check out, I will help.
Since you are in the UK the following brands might be up your alley:

MarkBass (Italy)
Ashdown(UK)
Trace Elliot (UK)
EBS (Sweden!)

MarkBass yeah! :)

Very good at amplifying your guitar how it sounds - without colouring it. 100% pure tone.

Plus BP plays MarkBass too - you can't argue with the guy who built the bass :D As far as I am concerned, Poppa knows best :)

Rod Trussbroken, it is curious to hear someone from Australia praise Peavey. I think of Peavey as a hillbilly amp. They seemed big down south (especially in the 80's) but not as south as you my friend.

A perfect example.... in June I went to a country wedding. It was deep in the hills of Virginia. The MC used a Peavey guitar amp for his microphone and the music selection was all country music. He had a big beard and an even bigger belt buckel that read "Red Man"..... as in Red Man chewing tobacco.

I have always seen Peavey that way and probably always will, but I know that they make some high quality gear.

Hey Figgy and Strummer,

Which of your suggestions do you think sound the "warmest" without being too "colored"? Hey, if you saw the thread that used the word "attackiness" and you think I'm headin' there, slam me...

I can't offer much help for other amps but I can for Gallien-Krueger.

If you're looking for a clear, punchy, phat, nasty, stanky, warm, round, modern, or subtle tone, I think GK can cover it.

But hey, don't listen to me. I'm just a teenager. :D

I am neither figgy nor strummer, but Ashdown is warm, markbass is warm and clear. You can kind of "hug" the ashdown sound, and Markbass is like this but slightly more hifi (to my ears at least)

Fig,

Really? I used to think Ashdown was sort of more transparent and less warm. I know, I know, this is all so subjective.

So what is Ampeg? Ain't that warm and colored? Some people say perhaps too much that it masks the true tone of your instrument

For that you'll need a head with a tube preamp (and the right tube) or one of the classic preamps: Alembic FX-1 or Demeter VTBP-201/s
