Can't wait either...Minneman and mangini are beasts !
My only fear is "will the new drummer write good dream theater stuff ?"
I mean, in this band the drums are a voice, like all other instruments, not just a metronome.
I fear too funny or basic beats in future songs, because I love Epic riffs and crazy unisons :)
I stay tuned for the part 3 of the dream theater real tv

Anticipation is building.

William and Catherine just left Buckingham Palace for Clarence House. Timing coincidence?

I reckon they are away to settle down to watch Part 3.

What a day.

Took me until now to finally watch it, stupid work kept getting in the way... Can't wait to see them on tour. And, seeing such awesome drummers it looks like I have a few new bands to check out ;)

Interesting choice - I wonder what the intangibles were that led all the band members to agree on the same guy. Without posting a spoiler, I will say that I was actually rooting for the guy who ended up being runner-up. I liked his playing better than the winner - or at least based on the very little bit that we got a glimpse of through these videos.

Kudos to DT and the production crew who put these together, though. Very well done.

I like this version of Idols WAAAYYYY better then the TV-crap :). Man, I was so pumped watching these 20 minutes and I just loved how he reacted. He's as awe-inspiring drummer and I sincerely hope the guys will put out a lot more awe-inspiring music! Congrats DT, see you on the next tour :).

Man, I had the dumbest grin on my face when they gave him the phone call. That was awesome. I'm so stoked!

Since you guys have mentioned it, I'll be honest; I got emotional watching it

No idea why, I just really really felt this documentary, especially the phone call.

And there just seems to be a tranquility to the post-appointment studio footage, I loved it.

So glad I'm not alone on this. I felt like an idiot. But, I'm a sucker for feel-good flicks ;)

I enjoyed that as well. I don't watch TV "reality" shows (anything but reality), but this was cool. Hope to catch them on tour. Really though I enjoyed watching them work in the studio a lot more than the drama part of it.

I know a lot of you chaps are on John Petrucci's forum, but if not here is the text from John's post in the "Welcome Mike Mangini!" thread; we love this stuff:

Well, it's been a very exciting day for all of us in Dream Theater and we are happy to finally share the news that Mike Mangini is our new drummer! He is not only a beast of a player but an incredible person as well who truly and fully understands and values everything that we strive to be as a band. Thank you for being so patient and incredibly supportive to us throughout the years and especially over the last several months. Thank you for your faith in us and your immediate and practically across-the-board acceptance of Mike Mangini as our new drummer. Thank you for the positive words about the documentary and all of your passion and dedication. The movie is our gift and our invitation into something that would traditionally be very private and I appreciate everyone's sensitivity towards that. There's a lot of work to be done, so back to the studio. JM finished tracking bass today and Jordan is recording as I type. Things are real busy around here. Can't wait for everyone to hear the new music and to begin playing live with Mike!
God Bless,
John
