Rob, have you checked out the "Greatest Hit (...and 21 Other Pretty Cool Songs)" by Dream Theater?

Disk Two (The Light Side) is made for those non-heavy mellow moments, you'd love it.

Also, just released today is a pic of the new lineup:

I could watch videos like that all day. You can't argue with the 3 drummers they decided on at the end. They are all beasts on the kits. Mangini is going to be a good fit. Marco would have been great too. I don't think there was any doubting Mangini, though. They did dedicate the entire first episode to him.;)

It's funny, I knew I'd seen Marco Minneman before. A friend reminded me that we watched a show about Miles Copeland trying to put a Police cover band together. And Marco is the guy that got the gig back then.

Looking forward to the new album. Some of those riffs they played were killer.

I was really happy with their decision. Mike Mangini seems like such a sincerely nice guy, passionate musician, and a monster of a drummer. Maybe the personality was really it for the guys. I don't think they could have gone wrong with any of these guys, but I love the idea of Mangini with them. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

I think they went with Mangini primarily because his personality appears to be what they need right now. Looking at it from a business perspective (DT is a business), Mangini is perfect because he will do pretty much whatever they ask him to because he's so stoked to be in the band, he will put 100% into every performance, and he will do it all without an attitude. I'm sure the band feels they now have more control over the business and Mangini will help them collectively be successful. Personally, based on the footage, I think Peter was the best fit for the "band" - he has the image and played the part of a metal drummer without looking overly animated (like Mangini and Marco), but then again what do I know...... :)
