I'm on the hunt for something HSS, and I know how much I love EBMM guitars. I guess my tastes have changed a little lately, so the Alder/HSS/Vintage Trem of the Luke really appeals to me...
Well...
Since a fully loaded JP is worth much more (£ wise), I don't think there would be a problem. I would recommend trying the Luke before you make your move, since its pickups aren't everybody's cup of tea.
Cheers
This is what I thought. My JP has a tiny ding under the pickups, but I imagine I would need some cash into the deal too.
And yeah, I've owned an EMG 85 before and liked it, but I guess I'm a tad apprehensive. How single coiley are the single coils?
The 'single coils' are very single coiley. As opposed to the Noiseless pickups that were in the Clapton Signature Strat I used to have, they do really sound more vintage and sparkling with a nice, bell like bottom end (think Hendrix).
If I compare them to the Lindy Fralin/Callaham single coils in my Custom Strat, the EMGs have a more compressed, HiFi like sound, maybe more like a vintage sound that has been recorded really well.
I guess you could say the EMGs have a vintage sound were the edges have been sanded off a little.
Thanks man.
Could they get me in Timmons territory in the neck position, would you think?
You're welcome!
Well, I am not an expert Timmons-wise but looking at your equipment, I guess it could take you there, yes.
Especially considering the fact that the Luke is a truly versatile guitar.
Excellent. Versatility is what I want, and actually need right now. I'm studying at GIT in London and the JP - whilst it isn't a one trick pony - is very much in the shred/metal category. The Luke seems a lot more versatile for the stuff we cover.
FWIW, the type of thing I'm after...
