Even though I have never met Jay, nor his wife, $100,- is on its way, from the other side of the pond.

Two years ago I have lost my grandfather to cancer, which had such a enormous effect on his partner, that he (gay-marriage, this is the Netherlands..) decided that he didn't want to live without his partner / my grandfather, and decided to literally take the plonge..

In this world, where we can put men on the moon, a disease like this should not be possible.

All the best Jay, and I hope the little help I could give from this side helps in the greater scheme of things. We do get carried away too often with the material side of the world, and not focus on how easy it is to just help.

Thank you! I'm sorry to hear of your Grandfather. It's amazing how many people this disease effects people. On a positive note about cancer though, I was reading yesterday that the Israeli's have developed a cancer vaccine that is believed to be able to keep 90% of people cancer free after they have been diagnosed. I will try and find the article and post the link in here. It was wonderful news to read in hopes of one day maybe finding a cure.

Found the link. It's a very interesting read.

This is great reading, and hopefull news indeed! Even though it would take at least another six years to become a real medicine, each break through is a good step on the way, and in the end the human mind is smart enough to find a cure anything nature trows at us!

Thank you both! To give everyone an update too since it's been a few days, the total collected is just a tad bit under $3,500.00. I think the total is something like $3,484.00 and some change. Again, I cannot thank you call enough for all you have done. I was telling one of my close friends about this last night who is like a brother to me. He also chipped in some money and is spreading the word among people he knows too. You guys really are all a bunch of amazing people!
Thank you again.

It definitely will... this forum has done plenty for us and even though we've not been around a much as we'd like, at least this is something practical that we can do. Having lost family members to cancer recently it's really the least we can do to help where we can.

Roll on payday - I'm off to hunt down the details of where to send the cash.

$25 sent. Sorry I can't do more. Deductibles like this should be illegal.

Thank you and I totally agree with you. Our fiscal year for the State starts in July so every July that deductible per person starts over again. Our Governor also sent all State employees an email a few eeks back telling us to expect to pay higher premiums for insurance this year. I have been with the State 5 years now and that will be5 years in a row and maybe more where they have raised our insurance rates. Depending on how high it is, I may actually look this year at insurance outside of my employer.

It's not just the government. Outside of government, health care costs to employees also go up every year about 5X inflation.

Hey Jay:

Can you update the total?

Jim

Right now the total that everyone has donated is $3,760.69.

To everyone who has donated, thank you so much. Every Thanksgiving, when my wife and I talk about all that we are thankful for, we were saying how much everyone on here has touched us and that we are thankful for you all with all of your kindness and generosity. Once we are through this hurdle, if any of you are ever in need, we will do whatever we can to help any of you out.

My pleasure - glad we can do a little bit to help. This forum has done a lot for us too in days gone by, and it's always nice to be able to return a little bit of the favour where possible.
