I came very close to having the white fretless 5H Big Al refinished in a trans burgundy finish. But, I sold it, instead. I don't think I'll be refinishing the sunburst Big Al I have now.

It's not all THAT Heavy (C'mon; hit the gym; do some lifts, GET A GOOD STRAP!!)

Plus the ergonomics of the Bongo distribute the weight; it really doesn't feel that much different from some much lighter basses I play.

And it sounds pretty sweet, too; much like a HH Bongo!

An observation for what it's worth (which is nothing... hey, waddayawant for free?):

The previous Coolest Finish Ever on a Bongo was this:

BiffMahoganyBongo2.jpg

That finish made it into production, but not on a Bongo... it was the 30th SR.

If history is to be trusted, what you see show up on protos generally doesn't show up as a product.

However, BP is the King, and it's good to be the king.

Oh man that is another very sexy Bongo!

I like it!

We like it too BP! Tell you what, if that bass goes into production, I will sell every non EBMM bass that I own to order one. I've actually been thinking of doing that anyway and probably will simply because my EBMM's get all of the love and attention now.

It's like that girl that you were so attracted to in high school but then you found someone else and when you looked at the previous girl you were interested in, because the new one is so much prettier you just go, "eh?" at the other one. That's how I am with my other basses now. After this post, I think I need to go buy my Bongo's some flowers and write them some poetry...

+1 well put...
I have been feeling a bit like that too lately...
I will never off my Alembic.
But the 3 other non EBMM might one day get the boot to the curb in order to invest in a few more kick butt musicman limiteds.
I have a 5 bass stand by Warwick. And always have 5 basses on it in a rotation.
9 out of 10 rotations it ends up being all 5 EBMM basses on the stand.

+1

Very nice. But still only about half as nice as the trans crimson mahogany Bongo, aka the prettiest Bongo ever

Honestly, I think I'd like it even more with a black/creme/black pickguard. After a lot of time with the Billy Bass both with and without pickguard, I think they got the look right with a pickguard. I mean, unless you do something crazy like put flames on a green bass, but who'd be crazy enough to do something like that?

Drool, drool! And I thought that, from what I have heard and read, basswood didn't have figure to it and thus the reason for solid colors...... Not so much here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That must have been one select piece of basswood

Where did the trans crimson Mahog bongo end up? I'd still like to buy it.

In it's case; about to be played!
Can't bear to part w/it; it's irreplaceable!
