Anxiously awaiting Luke's new album. :)

Until I checked out his website, I had no idea how much Luke had done. I knew he did a lot, but I didn't know he did THAT much. Wow!

I've dug Luke since back in the day. All those session cats (Dennis Budmier, Louie Shelton, Fred Tackett, Landau, Carlton, Gomez and Luke) inspired me to incorporate all types of music in my playing, thinking of what really fits the song. He really fits in the pocket of every session he was on. World class musician.

Toto was labeled soft rock for many years...its too bad as the level of musicianship in that band was(is) incredible. Its too bad look at all the crap on the radio now...I digress,I hope to be listening to Luke for a long time.

I started playing about 82... when Toto had their 2 biggest hits.. Rosanna and Africa... I just loved those songs... still do.. but then I heard Lionel Ritchies Running with the night and it had this great solo... mmmm... who's playing that..?? I wondered.. Luke became one of my favourite players 25 years ago.. he still is...:D Luke, Landau, Gilmour, Hendrix... it's all there for me..:)

I'm really looking forward to the live CD and DVD. I was at that Paris show and it was the best show I have ever been to. I was in shock it was that good, and I've seen the guys four times before that. I'd eb surprised if this disc does not become a must have for any Toto fan or musician.

+1

I was there too. Amazing gig in the Paris!!..

I had no idea of the SCOPE of Luke's career when I met him for the first time in 2005.

In a way, I'm glad that I didn't because I certainly would have found it harder to ignore that history and that talent.

I'm a Jackie-Come-Lately, I guess.

But of course I was around and old enough to get what Toto was doing in the 70s. I was more of a Dixie Dregs/Crimson/Todd fan, that sort of thing, but along the way, I realized that Toto could really grab me, too.

"99", although I have no idea what he's on about, still makes me listen closely.

"I Won't Hold You Back Now" is just one KILLER love song.

And isn't it odd that the things I like most about Toto are mostly Luke? Who knew? I didn't (thank God).

I didn't know it was Luke singing those. I really didn't.

So here I am, half a century old, finally building my little Toto collection. I never claimed to be that smart - good thing, good thing.

And Luke's work apart from Toto is what really gets me now.

Well, I should shut up or he's going to make fun of me, but Luke, if you're reading this, well, you know. The things I said backstage at the Madonna Inn were true, but I have gotten a little smarter.

God bless you, man.

Jackie

Very very cool post...
