I thought I remember someone on the open house tour say putting a maple cap on the pet would be an extremely difficult process because of the curves, etc?

Looks fantastic.

One of the wierd things was on the 20th proto and the JP topped proto (to me any way) was where the maple top met the back wood on the front of the guitar. The arm rest curve and the bevels on the SiLO just seemed ..... well .... wierd. I was glad that the SiLO ended up being radiused. I thought it looked cleaner. Sure the bevels could have stayed there but that would mean the maple top would have to be about 3 times thicker of some wicked maple bending would have to take place. This proto looks gourgousessneessisity. That color is my new favorite.

JP has seen the pics now.... but you guys got about a three hour headstart.
Pete what time is your clinic tonight?

Pete claims to have been there the first time John opened the case and he also claims to be responsible for John not bringing it to the clinic... he said something about wanting to deprive all of you the pleasure of... I mean, he said it was too beautiful to waste on... Let me try again, he thought John would just be swamped with people trying to touch it, handle it, too many questions in the limited time, etc.

Please direct all hate-mail and angry PM's to PeteDuBaldo though the forum.

Thank you for your co-operation.

John said that Pete became irrational and was reminding him of edward Norton in that serial killer movie...he started shaking and said that the guitar wouldnt fit in the Miller Beer Van...He said that pete swallowed what appeared to be a gorilla's dosage of Prozac and things went well.......

Stunning! Beautiful color variation with the top. I even like the painted headstock w/it and I'm usually a fan of the natural headstock. If it sounds as good as it looks, hooo boy!

Wish I could have seen John play it last night in Philly. He switched back and forth between two. The stage lights played havoc with the actual color of the silvery one and the black was very nice but they both sounded just fine.

HAHAHAHA man that's funny Sterling!

If I may quote what John Petrucci said immediately after opening the case (after I saw the shipping box and told him I knew what it was and he gave me an incredulous look until I mentioned that you posted pics) - - -

(in a wistful voice)
John Petrucci said:
"I thought it was going to have gold harware?....?....?.... Pete I really thought it would have gold hardware...."
And my reply - "John, you can't bring that guitar to the clinic, people will mob you trying to buy it off of you and asking you questions."
JP - "Rikk, you'd better put this on the bus and I will use it at soundcheck"

Sterling, the guitar sounded AMAZING! He played it live for a song tonight and it was incredibly full, rounded, and buttery smooth. A job well done, and I hope this guitar, or some close version of it, makes it into production. I would say for a good 5 minutes after JP called you while on the way back to the venue he was talking about what song to use the guitar on :) YET ANOTHER JOB WELL DONE!

Good ol' MA
He used it on 'Raise the Knife' and 'Learning to Live' at Thursday's show! He kept it in standard tuning.
