Hi Raul,

So in the UK that translates to £2510 and £2642 respectively.

And if paying in € against the $ its €1764 for the 6 string, again still cheaper to import.

To be clear it was about import taxes in different countries and why it varies. The answer fundamentally is the politics of whichever country referred to. Now we aren't allowed to talk politics here. So now what? Well I don't know...but suffice to say it's REALLY expensive to buy guitars where I live. Always has been.

BP alluded to the catch 22 whereas if they could sell more guitars the price could come down. True, but it's also the case that the so called big brands who sell truckloads of guitars, well their instruments are pretty expensive here too I've noticed. People still buy them!

Phew! Well that's a relief. For a minute I thought maybe somebody had said something contentious!

No, the answer is still economics. The politics introduced to the discussion was debatable opinion and indeed that debate was kicking off. I deleted a number of posts, not just your original one. You may not have seen them all.

And BTW, the no politics rule has been in force here longer than you have been a member. You should be familiar with it by now! :)

My original post wasn't intended to kick off a debate about that, and if it did, I apologise. I didn't see any of the posts that followed before you deleted them so I don't know what was said. I was just heading towards making the point that import taxes and duties in different territories do vary depending on what their governments set them at. Hence certain countries such as the UK have higher rates than others. We all have to live with that. I still prefer to buy locally and have the full warranty, rather than take any back door route, and be left with no possibility of warranty repair or replacement.

It's funny, this December I think I'll have been on this forum 10 years. I've changed a lot over that time, as has my attitude to purchasing instruments. Buying EBMM guitars in the early days for me was the biggest buzz, mainly as I'd zoned out from them after i quit working retail and (and couldn't afford them) till now. I still get the buzz, but now I'm selective in what I buy not just due to the cost, but because I class them all as keepers and I only have so much space at Smelly Towers.

For me they are exquisite instruments, and the whole experience is what you buy not just wood and wires. The order, the forum, the wait, the dealer, the distribution, the smell when you open the case, the torture and everything else.

It's a niche guitar line, but so much more, the experience for me is part of the cost - I have purchased other brands of instruments over the years and don't get anywhere close to the buzz of taking one of these out of a case for the first time. They cost longer, you save harder and the experience is more rewarding.

Just my tuppence worth (that's about 29cents with the exchange rate ;-) )

Smelly.

This is a great perspective time....cup half full half empty...

Everywhere I turn or watch or listen there are angry political rants....or just plain politically polarizing debate....

This is a guitar forum...can we say that it started with no rules....thats right no rules....pure as driven snow....then the political arguments started....then the abusive language to any female who dared to come here....the people coming here and selling an instrument and ripping our members off....for each rule you see here you can thank an asshat.

So lets look at this place where you can talk about guitars and escape the 10,000,000 other political sites.
