last thursday, i took me ESP into guitar center to have a setup done (the guy i normally go to works there now, and he does an excellent job). well, i left the guitar last thursday with one of the guys at the front counter, filled out a paper for what strings i want, how i want it set up, name and phone number, etc.

well, this morning, i called to check the status, since its been a week... and they don't know where my guitar is!  they told me to call in when the tech gets to work, but the fact that my guitar isn't accounted for is VERY unsettling for me. i just hope i get it back, its a great axe.....

So what was their attitude like ?

Did they seem particularly bothered or interested in the fact that they may well have lost your prized posession ?

I think if I'd have encountered that kind of shoulder shrugging 'so what' attitude
to the whereabouts of my Axis I'd probably have had the red mist descend.

Good luck with it Sub1.
If these halfwits don't sort it out quick smart AND act very apologetic about the whole sorry incident then warn them about the EBMM army who will descend upon them in our hundreds and decimate their shabby retail shack !

That happened to a rythym guitarist in a band I was in ages ago. He took his guitar in for a set-up and got a call a few days later that his $2000 (brand not named) was stolen from the store.

They made good on it, but he was still sad to lose that particular guitar.

I hope it works out for you.

The salesman you called probably works the floor and is nowhere near the repair deptartment. I wouldn't expect every employee to know where every repair is. Wait until you speak with the tech, I bet he has all information you need. : )

This is one reason I don't take my guitars into retail stores for setups. Plus, many of the retail locations in Cleveland out source the work to local repair shops and charge a sur-charge for the service & transportation. Pickups & drop-offs are once a week and it ends up taking much long too. Unless it's for warranty repair I'd stay clear. Good luck in getting your guitar back. Hopefully, the repairman stashed it.

My thoughts exactly....let the tech hand you the axe. Some guys just don't know where the "For Repair" guitars/basses/amps are ......

ok, all is well. i guess he had placed it somewhere else. i really trust this tech, and will continue to go to him. it was just that when this guy said "yeah i looked and it wasn't in the repair section, and i don't see any ESP's anywhere" i cringed, my first thoughts were "oh god, what if they have mistaken it for a trade in or sale and someone bought it????"

sorry for the false alarm guys, i won't let it happen again. i guess this is just the first good scare i have had. i am just a boy at 20 years old, so i am sure there are much scarier things to come my way than this

Whilst it's fair comment that you can't expect every member of the sales team to know the exact machinations of the repair department.
Surely it's in the spirit of good customer service for them to maybe ring the repair guy. At least give the impression that they're trying to give a damn about where Sub1's guitar is at ?
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that an absolute majority of guitar shop staff are guitarists themselves? And by extension would know how your No1 axe is basically an extension of your body ?
There is no excuse for bad or in some ways worse, indifferent customer service.
We all get fantastic, and well over and above expectation customer service from the good good people at EBMM, and I think the retail world would do well to recognise the level of brand loyalty this has engendered in all of us forumites.
Once again, I feel for you Sub1, I'm hoping for a happy conclusion to this thread.

Off the high horse buddy! He went into a superstore and asked the wrong guy. The wrong guy told him to talk to the right guy and voila everything's ok except that Guitar Center got bashed before the poster had a chance to do what they recommended.

ust a side note. Guitar Center is not a dealer for ESP.

This happened to me back in 1986. I took my BC Rich Warlock (I know what yer thinking) into a shop for a set-up. I went to get it a week later and it was gone. The shop gave me a different model BC Rich and sent me on my way. When they found the Warlock they called me so switch them back.
I get there and the Warlock is scratched to hell. The input jack was MISSING and Trem bar gone. I told the guy I wasn't going to switch back, he said I had no choice (I was a naive 16 year-old) so I left with a crappy Warlock. Still got it...and it looks alot worse now :)

i had my Ibanez JS1000 stolen by a guitar shop about 8 years ago, i walked in at about 1pm one day, asked for a service on the axe, they said come back in an hour and it will be done, so i went back, i asked if it was ready, they said they dont do services and could i please leave. ?!?!??! I had an invoice all signed and everything. luckily my father in law is a lawyer, i contributed to getting the place shut down too!!! Didnt get my axe back, but after hundreds of guitarists who had similar dealings got togther and kicked up a fuss the place got in real trouble.

BP,

Okay fella fair comment, I suspect that SUB1 Zero's fortunately unrealised potential nightmare just tapped into a bit of a theme for me and I suspect quite a few others.

I'm sorry if I've caused any upset.

I'm just glad that the man has his axe back safe and sound

So let me get this straight. You: a) have a beautiful wife, who b) happens to have a father who's a lawyer, and you c) have a sh*tload of ernieballs.
Damn man, I envy you:D .

I say that they aren't an ESP dealer... yet...

BP- it does seem as though they are becoming quite the stong arm in the music retail industry. They are opening a new shop about 5 minutes away from my house and as I type this i see a commercial on TV for my MOM and POP shop in town closing the doors. With more and MORE GC's going in do you think MOM and POP shops are going to be a thing of the past? I mean if you look at buying power they can buy more than any mom and pop shop could ever imagine... and they have exclusivity for Gibson and now ___________.... is it going to become a music monolopy?
