My dealer is saying that there are two build codes for a Bongo, one with matching headstock and one without, and is wanting to charge me extra to order a DD Bongo with a matching headstock. Surely this is incorrect?

Hmm...order the cheaper one. :D Bongos have matching headstocks. Period.

Hey, mebbe it's a hitherto unrevealed Special Oz Only Ltd Ed Bongo. You know, like the one with the all rosewood neck and h/s

The neck code is 22 and it means "bongo, rosewood, matching" and there is no upcharge for it.

There ain't much I'm sure about in this old world, but that I do know.

The dealer might be confused because there are new build codes for the neck on the DD basses, which is something I have to clear up with Dan in the morning, but there is no upcharge for matching headstocks on Bongos.

As you guys already know.

I'm betting it's just confusion on the dealer's end, Marko.
No disrespect to all you Good dealers out there, but having spent a few years (decades actually) in 'customer relations' functions (non-music industry), I have a nose for sniffing out 'bad information', whether it be unintentional or otherwise ...

When communicating with a dealer about the DD option, it may help to establish whether or not that dealer actually knows about the DD, as of July 15, Austin TX, Summer NAMM '06, and whether or not they know exactly who to contact at EBMM for the latest, exact information 'Right Now'; especially considering the time restrictions for ordering as per Dargin's 'Sticky' today.

[Hint: I was talking recently with a (big, national chain) dealer about an offbrand product I was searching for, and the catalogue he grabbed to look up the answer was dated 2004]

I'm not a dill, so I provided lots of information to the dealer about DD, NAMM etc. After a couple of days the dealer got back to me and seemed to be almost the full bottle on DD, so they'd done some research with their distributor or direct to EB. The only fly in the ointment is the fact they've given me two build codes to choose from for a DD Bongo, one without matching headstock, and one with :D

I think I've been an imaginary friend of Mark's long enough to state, emphatically and with authoritay, there is no resemblance.

You've done the best you can, and still my nose is twitching; I'm sort of in the same boat as you; the unsettling part for me is, I live only a few hours north of SLO, and in the same time zone, but fortunately or otherwise, north of 49th, where information mysteriously and often seems to get reversed.

Thank BP we internationals have Beth to keep us out of trouble.

Dude, I am the last person on Earth to discuss EBMM build codes with but Beth will straighten it out I'm quite sure. All I know is that on DD Bongo's I haven't been charging the $100 (retail) upcharge for MHS's.

I'm the back end man...I just process payments and shipping...Jack's the front end man.

as a "dealer" myself, yes, the build code thing is kooky and yes I did have to hip my national dist. to the DD(and also the other dist. about the EB Wah)...anywho... :p
be patient with your stores, most of the "gigging" employees enjoy a leafy green diet and are a little "slow on the uptake", have patience with them, their karma will take care of any wrong doing towards your DD ordering hassles

if they checked in here every once in a while, they would. Sounds like somebody is smarter than the others.
