One of the things I find interesting is that the bridge is not at the bottom of the bass, as it is with the rest of the bass line. Will this, in effect, make the new baby a short scale?

You know, I couldn't put my finger on it, but I think that's a big part of it. I personally find that the body shape looks like a..., well..., a guitar. Maybe I'm just totally in love with the StingRay5 shape so it's hard to top. Yes I know the SR5 was born from the Silhouette. Maybe that's why I love the look of that guitar!

Maybe it will grow on me. Then again, we'll have to see the final results since it can be difficult to judge when it's not really finished. It's also hard to judge when you can't feel it and plug it in either.

You can't argue with more choices and options though. Thanks for pushing things forward! :)

Ah, yes...

This is starting to remind me of those halcyon days when I was but a newbie around here and managed, more or less by myself (with the help of a certain person who shall remain unmentioned), to cause about a half-dozen threads to be locked.

Guys... a bit of friendly advice.

This is Poppa's house. You are here because Poppa is a really nice guy who lets you be here. This is not a random public forum. This is a manufacturer's website, with the constant and very generous participation by the CEO of one of the finest instrument builders on the planet.

Poppa has shown incredible generosity and tolerance of our nuttiness and even idiocy. That's why we're called Knuckleheads, a title I am proud to have. Long may his benevolence last.

Do not pass gas in Poppa's house. It's rude.

If you disagree with Poppa's choices, that's cool, but keep it to yourself.

If someone invited you for dinner and served soup that wasn't to your liking, would you spend the evening kvetching to all the other guests about it or do the right thing, politely refuse seconds and keep your opinion to yourself?

Right. I thought so.

Be respectful. And recognize that these guys are smarter about this stuff than you are. Seriously.

I don't care what anyone calls it, as long as they call it what it is ... freakin cool! I absolutely cannot wait to try one. Didn't mean to detract from the focus there, guys.

this might be sad but i have one of the pictures on my phone my desktop and my laptop.....

Pops its killer....i dont care how long it takes but i am going to get this bass, its the first time i have ever feel in love with a bass just from the picture.

As soon as they are out i will pre order one,the great thing is i dont have to worry how it sounds because it is made by EBMM and i have complete faith that it will sound amazing so i have no fear in ordering one without ever playing it !!:D

Umm, well I don't think Adouglas ment it quite like that.

It's just that when BP lets us have a peek at what's going on behind what is normally locked doors, he's already done market research, he and the rest of the gang at EBMM do have quite some experience in designing and marketing instruments and letting us watch is (I think) to be looked upon as a boon for us die hard EBMM fanatics.

And if you personally feel that this instrument might not be exactly your cup of tea, then you can of course state your opinion, but unless said opinion is accompanied by an IMHO or somesuch, you just come off as an asshat.
Much like if someone comes to my home and instantly starts bitching about my choice of art. Say that you personally don't like it, but don't say my taste in art is awful.
It has a lot to do with respect, and even though you may very well think that democratic rules should apply here they don't, simply because this is not a public speech forum, it's the Ernie Ball MusicMan forum.

Right, Strummer. It's about being polite, not about how you personally feel.

You want a free-for-all melee, there's a place for that. It's called TalkBass. This place is more polite and restrained. The analogy of coming into someone's house is spot on.

Every time Poppa & co. are kind enough to give us a peek into the development process (and who else in the industry does that? Geez...), immediately somebody comes along and second-guesses them. That's flat out rude. We are privileged to be able to see prototypes and we should recognize the fact that we are not being consulted or asked for input. Let them go about their business. They know it much better than we do.

Personally, the body shape ain't my cup o' tea. Which is good for my wallet. It is cool, though, and I think it'll be a winner.

Back to less-charged discussion....

Those lightweight tuners... I wonder if they might be made available as a retrofit for existing basses? Given factory policy regarding parts sales I really doubt it, but this is kind of a gray area. I mean, Ernie Ball does sell hardware (strap locks), and I do believe there would be a market for lightweight tuners.

While I love my Bongo, those big cloverleaf tuning keys always struck me as out-of-place aesthetically. But since EBMM didn't make them, they are what they are.
