Everybody stop for a second and think.....

AM I showing this to solicit a design committee? ( A camel is a horse designed by committee)

Am I just showing this to get props? (No I'm trying to show real time our diehards the creative process that our TEAM is undertaking)

Have I asked for any comments or criticisms? (No 'I'm showing you our future)

Do I think its rude to post pictures of competing basses to support your unsolicited creative input? (YES)

Guys you ned to take entitlement out of your mindset, at least here. Please feel free to love it or hate it but please dont try to get involved in the design process. You are ruining it for future efforts as I will be just like the other manufacturers and keep it in house. Think about it. The idiot kneejerk is to say, "He only wants to hear from fanboi's, do we have to agree with everything that poppa does? No you dont and I didnt ask as I said before

just enjoy it and move on to other threads where input is welcome...

Ive sAID A THOUSAND TIMES THAT IF I DESIGNED SOLELY AROUND THE DIEHARDS I WOULD BE BROKE. YOU GUYS ARE SO VALUABLE BUT YOU ARE LIKE CAYENNE PEPPER...A LITTLE IS GREAT A LOO IS OVERPOWERING

rant over

without wanting to sound like an ass,if you dont understand the forum=house thing by now,you may never get it.

put it this way

BP pays for this forum from his own pocket, its like a gift to us all.

I think he just got a bit niffed because of the link to the other site....warrick or something.

And that different bridge position is made possible by the new, lightweight tuners and headstock, which lets the bass balance even without an extended upper horn....

... more or less correct?

This is cool stuff.

I'm curious about this. I totally get the concept of better access to the higher frets, but does that make a longer reach to the lower frets?

True, but it's also a wise allocation of marketing/advertising dollars. If you think that's not part of it ("you" in the general sense, here), you're kidding yourself. It's very smart business. As you know, these forums are perused by a great many beyond those of us who frequent and participate on it. To have knowledgable enthusiasts like ourselves giving one shining testimony after another ... well, to be honest, I don't have the visibility to quantify the effect (other than the not uncommon "I bought my new EBMM bass(es) because of this forum" post), but put it this way ... it certainly doesn't hurt. And myself personally, I am happy to contribute in that way, and I do it very consciously and deliberately from time to time.

It's a give and take here, that's all I'm saying. And as such, respect is a door requirement. That's why I get "riled" sometimes and impulsively go off on people who I feel are being disrespectful. But it's not my place to do that, and I'm really working to get that under control. :)

Sorry for the digression, it's just something I often think, and the context/opportunity to express it presented itself. Please delete if appropriate.

In a determined effort to get this thing back on topic, permit me to chime in here.

That depends on where the bass hangs, I think. By which I mean where the upper strap button is located relative to the nut.

Basses typically hang with the upper strap button directly below your left shoulder, i.e., with the strap going straight down. So a Thunderbird or something like that with the upper button at the heel joint will have a really long reach to the headstock. Most basses with horns seem to have the upper strap button more or less in the vicinity of the 12th fret. That means the nut will be closer in.

From the look of things, this appears to be somewhere in between. So I think you have a point about it perhaps being a bit of a longer reach. For people of normal stature, I don't think it'd be a problem.

Only way to tell is to pick one up, I guess.

The above comment pretty sums it up for me. I bought my first MM SR sight unseen, having never even played a MM bass because of this and other forums. I am now the proud owner of two...maybe three depending on the price of this new bass.

Keep up the good work EBMM. I do enjoy the in work progress shots.

Yup!

Got my first EBMM Bass (SR4H) from a forum member without every playing one. Just the raving got me wanting one. I always wanted one just cause they were "cool" looking to me but when I read so many posts on this forum of how happy people were with them I decided to get one. I now have 2 Bongos in addition to my SR4. Love them all and never looked back.

I am excited about getting one of these new basses and a SR4HH :)

I have been wondering what all the knobs are for.

Not a design suggestion, just wondering out loud; could the little ones be passive/active selectors and the extra large knob be a frequency selector?

I could see myself spending days, weeks, months playing with the tonal possibilities!!!

Whoa, hyperventilating!!!

Again, just daydreaming...:p

i think, at this stage, they put all sorts of knobs on so that they can get the electronics to do a ton of "things" during R&D and test-plays by BP before making a final decision regarding the voicing and all that.

Good call. This pic should appear a minimum of once on every page of the thread. Classic shot, and as someone else has already put so well, an instant classic of a bass.

I applaud and salute most of you. We go through this everytime we show you real time what we are working on. Usually they are guitarists...enuf said.

But please reread my last post. Im trying to keep you in the loop.

I am glad that some have realized that they are self appointing themselves as moderator.

Let me put it this way RobertB If Phatty said it and I said it why are you giving a counterpoint and "exposing" our marketing....If you disagree...fine go to the next thread.

The problem here is that everyone in the company reads this forum and I cannot allow any infleunce early on from the cayenne pepper cats

This isnt to alienate anyone but can I ask please and thank you to refrain from offering any specific sugestions of beefs yet....we arent done and this is a process that we must have gotten right long before this cheap marketing forum came along.

Please watch and enjoy the ride.

Roscoe please let it die.

Bags of respect to Big Poppa! I have only just seen that pic and it looks great.

See, I am new to this forum, hence I have no idea when it was that it went online, what year I mean, thought from what I can remember I have known the MM brand since I was a young kid, must have been 11 and I am 47 now, cause my cousin used to play probably one of the first basses ever made pre EB and I got into bass right after the first time I heard it playing... but I am wondering if this "bonus preview" for the consumer is something that EBMM does regularly, (ever since the forum has been running) for all the new designs, or is it the first time?

For instance, was the Bongo in its designing stage also showcased?

I am actually proud of the courage that EBMM is showing by presenting to us prototype development pics, after all we have to realize this is a risky business, when there are so many copycat manufacturers that could mimic the design of a product that is not even yet copyrighted or trademarked.

So once again BIG RESPECT to EBMM and Mr. Sterling Ball for doing this, none of us should even dream of making any comments or suggestions, we just have to sit and admire and wait for the final product to be announced.

If I was in the same shoes as BP & Team, I would hate being suggested how to do my job.

You wouldn't tell a great musicians what chords and scales to play, would you? The same apply to EBMM: don't tell 'em how to make instruments. :D :D :D
