Of course, UPS did manage to demolish my guitar player's 1998 Gibson Historic Reissue 335 into about a billion pieces and crack the hardshell case from end to end even though it was double boxed.

I think UPS might have done him a favour ;)

I've shipped well over 1,000 basses via UPS Ground and never lost a single one and the only time I ever experienced any damage was due to my laziness in making sure the bass didn't flop around inside the case. YMMV

gee, thanks Steve. You know you just pretty much guaranteed that my SR HH is going to show up Monday with a busted headstock, right? :)

Nope...I learned my lesson the hard way with Lowell's Bongo currently in the EBMM repair department getting a headstock ding repaired...yours will be fine except for a spit mark on the upper horn.

FWIW, my Sterling I ordered last year took two cross-country trips on a UPS plane, arriving three weeks late at a NEIGHBOR'S house that they thought was mine (I was under house arrest to receive the package, they delivered it down the street to an unattended home, instead).

I've heard you guys complain about UPS and now they got me. I've been sitting here expecting the black sparkle Ray Travis sent to me on Monday. I kept noticing the status tracking window never left Georgia.

Just now I got this:

AN INCORRECT ROUTING AT A UPS FACILITY CAUSED THIS DELAY;THE PACKAGE WAS MISSORTED AT THE HUB. IT HAS BEEN REROUTED TO THE CORRECT DESTINATION SITE

They're only asked to ship a package, and they can't ship a package. I hope FedEx eats their lunch. And Dale Jarret seems like such a nice guy.

Well Sorry to hear that But FED EX has lost over 10 basses in 15 years, 4 we're never found and they have miss delivered 4 out of 5 packages I send, No ones perfect I guess but Fed Ex needs to back to Mrs. Feilds Cookies where they belong.

Just got the word from Travis. UPS brought the bass back to his house today! I think I'll submit this as a plot for The King of Queens!

UPS lost all the photos from my wedding in Yosemite (including negatives). They only paid for the cost of the undeveloped film, were rude about it, and never appologized to me or my crying wife.

I use FedEx now.

Well, I have held off long enough on this. I cringe everytime I know that a large package will be shipped UPS. My driver is a great guy, but the company really has gone downhill latley. I have posted somewhere the destruction they had wrath on one of my packages.

Or FedEx . . . .

Or DHL . . . . .

Or pretty much anything . . . . ('cept maybe the USPS) . . . . .

I get stuff via FedEx ground a lot lately, and the boxed almost always look new - nary a ding, much less a scuff. And the UPS stuff looks like it was transported inside a running cement mixer . . . . . and FedEx has generally been cheaper, and faster to get to me as well. I agree with a lot of the others. UPS was something great in the 70's and 80's. Today, they just suck . . . .

Travis, the other thread about my bass got closed before I could post. It's no sweat about the bass. Right now it's 2 hours from my town and will be here Monday! Thanks!
