Value of EVH? (With pics)

i did not understand it either until i noticed that the pups on my EVH are set lower than the two axis guitars i own?
this would at least explain the TONE difference
and as for the "feel" difference this is because the EVH has a worn neck
what i mean is that it is made to the EXACT spec's as eddies old kramer that had wear spots on the 1,2,3,4, fret area
if you are sitting down playing it you can see a small dent in the neck there

I still prefer the EVH even though i think the axis is a great guitar
let me put it this way if the EVH never exsited and EBMM made the axis with no eddie
connection i would still play a axis over ANYTHING else out there!

The worn in, exact replication, is the back contour, not the fretboard, as far as I'm aware. I never saw any of the EVH's on the racks when they were new with worn fingerboards. I'd say that was the previous owner 'wearing it in'. The Axis, unless EB is shining us on, which I doubt, has the same replica profile on the back, and the fretboard is the same, minus the minor width adjustment.

Anybody have a picture of the original case for a EVH model? The seller is dropping by tomorrow with the guitar - so would like to know if it's the right one. Also someone pointed out that the switch wasn't original - is it possible to buy this anywhere?

I had never played an EVH before so I was very disappointed to realize that the Floyd could only lower pitch (only thought that was the case with the D-tuna) Didn't think it was of much use compared to my JP6's trem. It did sound fantastic though - no doubt about that. But I decided to leave it at that although the price seemed resonable (1150$) But the interest for EB/MM's here in Denmark are quite small so they are hard to get a decent price for - now I'm going for a Silhouette s-s-s instead because thats the one sound I actually need at the moment.

Yes. And the cavity routed for the pots and switch on the Axis is MUCH larger on the Axis than it was on the EVH. On the EVH it is only large enough for one pot. On the Axis it's large enough for a pot a switch and at least one more pot.

I'm not so sure about the "tone chamber" theory regarding the switch location on the EVH. But it sounds as good as anything I suppose.

The tone chamber theory has been used by many guitar manufacturers to manipulate the tone of a guitar. To illustrate, I chose one, Tom Anderson because he has a pretty good explanation of how the sound is different between his solid body, and his guitar with the tone chambers added. The placement on the body of the route probably has as much to do with change in tone as the amount or mass of wood. If you look at the differences in tone as described by Anderson, you may see some similarities in the way that people describe the differences in tone between the Axis and the EVH.

Yup. I'm aware of the concept and practice of chambers. I can't even argue with you. I'm just not personally convince that the switch route on the EVH qualifies as a sound chamber that's all. Especially given it's location. I have an easier time believing that the larger pot cavity in the Axis has an affect on tone before I'd go with the switch route on the EVH doing that.

I doubt we'll ever get to the bottom of this so any idea is a good one at this point.

True enough hbucker. Even if we don't agree on the specific physics of the routing, I think we agree that the rout is the most signifigant structural change between the two models that would have the most drastic affect on the tone.

I know the price is way low compared to US prices. But here in Denmark the interest for anything that isn't Fender or Gibson is very small. Have no experience in selling international so just dropped it. Didn't want to buy it just to sit in the closet for 10 years. So the buying is passed on to "Brentrocks"
