I too had problems with the electronics of my Stingray Special,
just before a concert my Stingray stopped playing, the problem was absolutely not the dead or wrong batteries (let's not tell ourselves b******t), analyzing the electronics in the lab at the university I discovered that a capacitor had broken. I've been playing bass for 20 years now and I have to say that something like this has never happened to me, not even on instruments that cost little money. I don't know what it depends on but this thing absolutely cannot happen on an instrument that costs € 3000, it's intolerable!!!! To be able to play my Stingray again and in a short time I had to replace the electronics with a custom one but what I wanted was to have the original electronics but apparently it is not a given to have reliable electronics on an instrument that costs as much as two months' salary
I wasn't aware that EBMM manufactured capacitors. Even the best suppliers can make a part that goes bad very quickly, and sometimes entire bad batches, which results in a recall.

Did you create your account here simply to make this unjustified complaint?

I created the account two years ago when I had the problem with the electronics to find out if anyone had the same problems as me. Obviously there can be manufacturing problems in any component, but in my experience I have never had problems with active or passive instruments, neither on cheap instruments nor on more expensive instruments, the stingray special is the best bass and the most expensive I have ever had in my hands and I never expected it to let me down. This is a huge disappointment for me and as far as I'm concerned it is not acceptable. Then if we want to talk about "recalls" ... usually when companies do something stupid they recall the owners of the affected models and replace the parts in a short time, I have not received any communication for my bass and it is also registered on the manufacturer's website

Why would there be a recall for 1 alleged faulty capacitor on 1 bass? Sounds like a warranty issue to me.

And to say that a bad capacitor is "not acceptable" makes me wonder what rock you've been living under. Anyone who has worked in manufacturing where you are outsourcing parts, especially electronics, knows that not everything that passes QC is going to make it through the warranty period. That's why there is a warranty period.

Did you contact EBMM customer service at all? You make it sound like you had to go through massive trouble to replaced a single faulty component. Any sound repair tech could easily check all the components on a surface mount board to see if they are working correctly. If electronics fail, component failure is the first place to look, especially when you have low voltage low current system that is unlikely to ever burn a trace, cause arcing, make components explode, etc.

If you've never had an electronic component in an active bass go bad, count yourself lucky. Most won't have that luxury even with a passive instrument.

In my opinion you are not considering the fact that you have to pay €3000 to have a Stingray Special, for that amount I think the minimum is to have a reliable instrument, if for you everything is acceptable it is fine, for me it is not

Ok, please go find me any supplier of capacitors, resistors, potentiometers, etc that have a 0% failure rate. Here's a hint: you won't find one. I'm very sorry that you had an electrical component failure, but there is literally no way to guarantee a 0% failure rate, not from any maker of components. You can do all the burn in tests and QC that you want. There still will be failures.

Even Bentley Dealers have a service department ;)

Also read plenty of post on Forums with players having trouble with Sadowsky NY,C, Fodera, Lull Etc.

EBMM Basses have been known to be reliable all of them including Stingray Special

Yes it sucks to have problem with 3K Bass
But once taken care of should prove reliable in long run
