So I've got a 1999 EB MM Axis Super Sport and I am ready to get her a little brother. I want to get an Albert Lee with MM90s in Black Cherry Burst. Hard tail is very important to me as well. The question I have is how do I go about ordering one? Should I just go to an E.B. dealer and work it out?

Thanks for any tips.

Yeah, I am looking forward to it. I'm actually going to sell the G&L ASAT to make room for the AL. I just never fell in love with that guitar and am getting too much buzz on it through the amp with the action/relief I like. Funny thing is I use my E.B. S.S. to gauge everything. I am amazed at how well it plays with low action. I'm hoping the A.L. that is born to me someday exhibits the same properties.

Ok - it took a while, but I finally put the order in. A.L. MM90 in black cherry burst, white pearloid guard, and a hard tail. Should be in my hands sometime in March. This will actually be a pleasant and exciting wait - I have no doubt E.B. will make yet another perfect guitar. I'll post pics when she come in!

Just a question but you said the Super Sport is from 1999. The photo does show a SS not a Sport...I thought those didn't come out until closer to 2002. Is that not correct?

I'm not sure when they started making the SS - but my guitar's born on date is 9/14/1999.

That is super interesting. I have a 1999 catalog that came with a guitar purchased that year and it does not show anything past the Sport line. I had investigated before here what year that the Sport was discontinued and replaced with the Super Sport and it seems that late 2001/early 2002 was when that happened. Does your headstock say "Super Sport" on it? Anyone here have info on the changeover? Great looking guitar BTW!!

Well I did find this info on the Ernie Ball/MM website. Apparently the Sport version was shown at winter NAMM in 97 and the Super Sport version was shown off at winter NAMM 1999. I assumed that the Sport line was discontinued when the SS line came out but I guess that was not the case.

Victory!!! My Black Cherry Burst E.B. A.L. MM90 Hardtail came today!!!

I'm pretty damn happy with this purchase. E.B. did an amazing job building this guitar. Finish is pure beauty (camera doesn't do the Black Cherry Burst justice). Build is perfect. Neck - wow, what a compliment to my Axis S.S. that has birds eye maple - the A.L. has flame maple. The sound I'm getting out of this thing is much, much better than any of the reviews I've seen/heard on Youtube. I'm glad to say it sounds better than my Strat - bridge pickup is bright, but balanced - not harsh. Position 2 has wonderful quack with a thick quality to it. Middle is proud, 4 is unique, and 5 is cheese cake (not buttah, but better!). Yes - I am in awe right now, I haven't felt like this on a NGD in a long, long time. Cheers to Ernie Ball!!!
