Hello, my name is Michael and I am desperate for some information. I have owned a Burnside by Guild Tele for nearly 17 years now and I have never seen another one like it until today. In the stairway picture above there are 2 of them!!! It is the top center right and left. Could someone who knows any history, info or honestly anything at all about them, please help me out? I have no idea how to post a picture, but it's exactly like the 2 pictured. I'm pretty certain the body is white oak and it has to weigh every bit of 20 lbs! The only number I can find on it is 004 on the neck plate on the back. I really appreciate anything you have! Thank you

George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville (Gruhn Guitars | THE Source for the Vintage Instrument World) was VP of R&D at Guild guitars in the 80s. I am sure that he would have some info as he is a vintage guitar expert. You should send them an email. He also has a number of YouTube videos.

WOW! That is an awesome collection. I FINALLY got my SM model 2 weeks ago. I've wanted one since they came out (as close as I could get to Steve's #1) and I LOVE the guitar. I knew I would. I never even played one before I got the instrument. Seeing what Steve can do with it and watching guys on youtube and reading through these forums left no doubt (not that I had one anyway).
I haven't played in YEARS and when I did play before I was never that into it because I just couldn't get into the instrument I was playing (and couldn't really afford a Morse model). It's inspriing how much an instrument can pull you out of a complete musical rut and make you actually WANT to sit down and practice. I LOVE THIS GUITAR.
I'm sure some would argue that "true" guitar players would be dedicated no matter what guitar they had, but I don't care. I love that guitar so much. I've wanted one since they first started making them.
They came out RIGHT around the time I was introduced to the Dregs by my father and I became a Morse fanatic and have loved that guitar ever since. I saw the Dregs on one of the two nights they recorded 'Bring 'em Back Alive' at Center Stage in Atlanta and it was MAGIC. He had his number 1 with him then - I think. Didn't he have a prototype with a white humbucker in it? Maybe it was the same guitar. I'm not sure about that one.

Anyway, upon a better look today....wow! You've got a boatload of those creepy hand hangers!
And you've got Morses that aren't even Morses !?!? More franken-Morses than Steve I suspect!
I'm diggin' the Tele-Morses!

Just cruised through this thread and see that I didn't really respond fully to this post...
Yeah the "Hand Hangers" are pretty interesting - from an outfit named GuitarGrip - and I have *thousands* of dollars just in hand hangers.
On the Franke-Teles - I have three. Two are those Guild/Burnside prototypes which Steve never approved, but somehow made it into the sales channel anyways (much to his chagrin) and they really are crappy guitars so I don't blame him.
The other one (in the top center) was actually Steve's - and here's the story on that: About 1980 Larry DiMarzio made Steve two backup Franken-Teles, so that he'd have a spare to his one that he personally built. Both of the ones Larry built have maple caps on them, one stained light blue and the other birdseye. Steve still has the light blue one, and I have the birdseye one (which he carved his name into the headstock of, way back when).
There's a long story on Steve's original Franken-Tele, but the short version is he gave it away to a dear friend about 12 years ago - so he only has his blue one now.
