Nice Eventide, which one is that?

I've got the best set-up of all:

I mic a Pignose through the local bar PA.

It's the Eventide GTR4000. I have that one and a spare in my backup rack.
It was designed for guitar. It has virtual stomp boxes , amazing OD's etc.. And NO lag between presets....:D

Ah the Engl episode!

Well, it let me down on 4 gigs. Firstly nearly all the pre-amp valves went microphonic or bad on me. Chandlers to be fair changed a couple. The covering was tearing really badly for a 1 month old amp, it seemed badly applied or of poor quality, especially around the corners. The grille on the amp rattled reallly bad when playing at gig volume, and the fans at the back periodically would conk out. Then, the final straw was when the output transformer failed! It took 7 weeks for Engl to fix it, and when in came back it sounded really scratchy and not that nice. In the mean time I bought the Line6 and have never looked back.

Shame really, as it sounded awesome when in worked! I got the impression Chandlers got pissed off with Engl too. Al in the shop did all he could to keep me informed, so I cant fault them. Just my advice to eveyone who reads this, BUY AN ENGL AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Their customer support is zero. I attempted to order a spare foot switch lead on 4 seperate occasions with no luck.

Flogged it on ebay in the end for £700. Glad to see the back of it.

Oh that´s bad to hear I´m an ENGL Player way before I had my guitar shop and never had a problem. I live 2 hours from them and their support is great.
What is the distributor of ENGL in England so I can tell them that they suck over there?
That´s bad to hear man. :(

Just wondering what everyone here plays through.
I personally play through a ton of different amps that I've aquired over the years, but my main rig is still a rack.
Other than my rack I use:
Custom Audio/Suhr OD 100SE w/ matching 4x12 loaded w/ Mesa MC90's
Custom Audio/Suhr OD 50 w/ matching 4x12 loaded w/ Mesa MC90's
VHT Ultralead w/ EQ Matching 4x12
VHT CLX w/ EQ Matching 4x12
VHT CLX w/EQ 2x12 combo
VHT Classic w/ EQ 2x12 combo
VHT Super 30 w/ matching 1x12
Mesa Boogie Mark 4 shortie w/ 4x12 MC90's/EVM's
Mesa Boogie Mark 3(Red stripe) w/ 4x12 MC90's/EVM's
Mesa Boogie Mark 3 custom 1x12 combo, Flame maple wicker(blue stripe)
Mesa Boogie Studio 22 w/ 2x12 loaded w/ EVM's
THD Flexi 50 w 2x12 and hotplate
Groove Tubes Soul O 45 1x12 w/ matching 1x12
Marshall JCM 800 2210 w/ 1960B
Fender 75 head w/ Mesa 4x12 (MC90/EV)
And yes...A Crate V1512 combo :D
A few other rack setups. Mainly VHT based, and another with VHT and Engl E570.

Here's a quick shot of my main rack...too much to list...
Steve

Wow! I've played clubs where that wouldn't fit. I'd hate to have to carry it around too. My rig is pretty simple; a Boogie MK IV, a stand to put it on and a cable to get to the guitar.

I use Two Marshall Studio 15's with a Keeley Modded TS-808 and an Analog Man Modded TS-9 and a Boss DD-3 echo.

I send the dry signal into one Studio 15 and out into an Avatar 2x12 cab with one Celestion G12h-30 and one G12m-70. I run the "wet" signal from the echo unit into the second studio 15 with a G12-h30 in the combo unit.

Also a Roland VG-8EX for a modeling amp/Guitar synth.

Let me know if you ever want to sell one of the 15's...
Cash waiting bro...

You will love the GP3. I have 3 of them paired up with 2/90/2's and VHT 4x12's...
It's the Ultralead in stereo with MIDI control.
It doesn't get better than that bro....

I had a very similar setup.
3+SE- 2/50/2- into a pair of 1960B's and a G Force.
You should try to get your hands on a MB cabinet with the Mesa MC90 speakers in it. The Custom Audio stuff loves the Mesa MC90's. It will sound like a whole new rig.
I'm going to get my hands on another 3+SE and have John mod the hell out of it like he did my OD 100SE...
Great rig....

Colin, you sick freak. :D

Anyway, after going through a 5150 Combo, a Peavey Classic 30, a Mesa Nomad, and a Peavey Ultra Plus, I've switched to a solid state.

I know, you probably think I'm crazy, but I've got a VOX AD60VTX. It uses a 12AX7 tube to "color" the tone to make it sound more tube-like. I think that it is without a doubt, one of the best modeling amplifiers I've ever heard.

I just had enough of buying pedals, and Tubes. I came to the realization that the only person that is going to apprecaiate the incredible tone achieved by the right combination of a good tube amp with the right series of effects pedals would be me. At a gig, the people in the audience don't care about tone, unless it is terrible, and the VOX has great tone for a solid state.

Everything you need on one compact package. Paying $285 for the nice pedal kind of sucks though.

Mike,

Don't be intimidated. Your setup would be a great one even without the GT8.
The JC-120 is the only solid state amp I've ever liked.

I'm using a TopHat Club Royale 2x12 with my AL.

You're kidding me! I figured I was the only guy on the planet playing an AL through a Top Hat.

Oh well, I guess we can start our own little club.

I need an overdrive pedal so I can dump the Metal Zone. Any suggestions?

I actually think the Metal Zone is ok for what it is...it's got that nice sweepable EQ.

I did dump mine for 2 pedals (well, actually about 10, but these are the 2 I ended up with) - the SPF Greenline and an MJM Foxy Fuzz.

The Greenline does moderately high gain, but you can still hear your guitar tone...it has a very open up front character to it.

The Foxey Fuzz is a big fat nasty fuzz.
