The Dregs are the BEST! Well that's my opinion, because I am obsessed with Morse's playing and compositions. So speaking of amps, he has an INCREDIBLE set up. I think he has one of the most PERFECT tones out of anybody. Than there is Petrucci and Eric Johnson (but he doesnt play MM's that bastardo ).

The heart of Steve's sound is the Marshall 2555 Jubilee (the amp that Slash swears by). Two years ago I coulda picked up a Jub 1/2 stack for $2000, I thought it was way overpriced...then just a couple months ago I saw one on ebay go for $2500. I was very tempted, but just couldn't do it. Steve also uses a Lexicon MPX-G2 for effects, I was tempted to get one of those too. I should probably spend the money on lessons.

Adam- don't those jubiliee amps come in 1 x 12 and/or 2 x 12 combos? Are they much different sounding than the head/cab?

Yes, they come in 1x12, and 2x12 combo's, as well as a "micro stack". It's a small solid state amp with a stack of two 1x12 cabs....more of a collectors item. I was thinking of getting a 50 Watt 1x12 combo and using it with the 4x12, but these Jubs are expensive and hard to come by. Looking back I wish I pulled the trigger on that $2000 1/2 stack, well worth it now.
I never tried one, combo or head/cab, I just know that I like Steve's and Slash's sound, and as a Marshall enthusiast I read alot about them on other forums. The only real difference between the combo and cab is that the combo is open back. All Jubs come with V30's, so they tend to sound a little bright. Also, the Silver "Jubilee" was only made one year, 1987. For a few years after that, they made the same exact amp with black tolex, the 2555SL....the "Slash"!

It's to be announced in an upcoming magazine with an ad. My friend Derek from www.rocksolidamps.com will be dealing with him.
He tried the amps and absolutely fell in love with them...
But what's not to love compared to his old rig...
But I don't think it would matter if he played a Gorilla amp, he'd still make it scream....

Yeah, I remember the show well- It was the first time we met- what a show, they did "I'm freaking out" that night. They played Philly the night before and the 2 shows on Long Island the following night.
I also remember the opening band- they had some weird name, I thought they were pretty good, but not really my style of music-- they were sort of like a jazzy Dave Matthews Band. I remember this loud dude at a table near us (Janice might remember this too) who was trying to impress his friends by yelling, with extreme New York accent: "Those guys fu**in sucked! Those guys fu**in sucked!...I play guitar, and those guys fu**in sucked!!"...what a clown.

Sean, as long as I live, I'll never forget getting to the club early and catching the Dregs soundcheck...they were working on some of the more difficult parts to "I'm Freaking Out". Paul H. snapped a couple pics to document the event.
Talk about hijacking the amp thread, sorry 'bout that.

Yea, I actually remeber that concert VERY WELL!!! That was my FIRST time EVER seeing Steve play live and the first time I heard a lot of Dregs. And ACTUALLY I'm in the FREAKIN picture of the BB Kings club!!!!! I am the one all the way on the right up front in front of Dave and Steve. I can recognize my shaved head. That did change already, but still, this is crazy. It was actually me and like 5 of my friends that took over the whole front of the stage. If you guys remeber we were the ones that started head banging to Dave's solo part. We were basically going crazy to every song. And I'm Freakin out was the best ever. I hope he returns soon to NYC. I was disapointed with that whole seating crap at BB Kings this year when Steve came. But that was a HELL OF A SHOW!!!

Yea, it was definatly an enlightening moment at least for me and some of my friends. It felt weird when me and my friends looked around, because there was mostly older people around. No offense or anything, but that says something about my generation. It seems that only the really dedicated guitarists have the means to research and know TRUE music. I know that everyone has their own taste and what not, but there is still a HUGE difference bettween these mtv crap bands and Steve Morse. My generation is pissing me off. WEll anyway, now that I released that lol, I'll move on .

I didn't know Luke was playin'...where? At BB King's?
I noticed Yngwie was playin' at a smaller venue here on L.I., but after seeing him at G3 I decided to blow it off. Tommy Emmanuel just played at BB's last Tuesday, I shoulda made the effort, but it's tough going into NYC for a weeknight concert.
