I changed the knobs to black—-didn’t like the cream. Going to change the pickups to other DiMarzios. Go double black? Or stick with zebra? If zebra, black and cream, or go black and white?
I'd keep the black knobs and go double black pickups. I think it would put the focus on the the wood, where all chrome would be maybe a bit too bling to my tastes.
I wouldn't change the priginal pickups on any Axis.
Those OEM DiMarzio pickups are among the best I've ever heard and they match the guitar's nature perfectly.
Changing them for other would change the guitar in a way that you could not like.
My 2 cents, of course.
I struggle with that. But I thought they sounded bad. I’ve had two older axis before, and liked them. For some reason, this one I don’t. I had another player take a spin on mine—said they were lifeless, so maybe not just me.
I did buy it used. From guitar center online. So never was able to try the sounding but having heard two of these before, knew what I was gettting… I thought.i was at least. . Didn’t consider that could’ve been swapped out. Good point though.

Absolutely a possibility! If I were going to pull a scam like swapping out pickups, I think taking it to a place to trade in or sell where there is virtually zero chance they are going to check the origin of the pickups would be the way to go.
