Wow.. I didn't know X was still kicking.

Do they still have Billy Zoom, John Doe, and Exene Cervenka?

Yup. It's all the original members, those three plus DJ Bonebrake. The Live in Los Angeles DVD was filmed last November, and I think it was the first time they'd played together in several years. I heard Exene and John Doe weren't on speaking terms for a long time. Exene looks a lot different, but they still sound great.

Just saw Setzer on PBS doing x-mas tunes with his orchestra the other night.

Killer stuff! He's very entertaining, a fine singer and a good player. Try and look for it. it's about 2 hours. (40 minutes of music and 1 hour 20 minutes of pledge breaks ;) )

The last CD I was listening to was a cheesy copy of the latest crap I'm workin on in my basement.

Prior to that it was. . .

Dark Side of the Moon (trying to listen for Alan Parson's influence)
SteveB's latest recording (trying to figure out how he wants the vocals to sound)
A bunch of guitar tracks that I'm practicing to on Mel Bay's CD.
A bunch of guitar tracks that I'm practicing to on my Rock Shop CD.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm starting to think, maybe I dont get out much.

Thanks for the lesson.

Just got home from a department party, but last night I was listening to a string trio named 'Rasputina' on Napster. A couple nights before (as well as a few months prior), I had seen them as a quartet on Live @ the Knitting Factory.

A wicked take on the classics, mixed with a goth and slight punk feel. Three cellos run through Epifani cabs (not sure what amps), with overdrive kicked in. They have a drummer who compliments their style perfectly.

Definitely an acquired taste, but well worth a listen for the open-minded!

CodeMonkey has been spinning:

mp3s:
The Holy Shroud (sort of ATDI "Vaya" era rock, with those commies from North of America in the band)
CocoRosie (kind of hip hop, 2 female vocalists, keys player uses the animal noises patch, a must listen)
Cave In (spacy rock that degrades into some awesome metal parts that remind me of Isis)

CDs:
Broken Social Scene - S/T (Album of the Year, tbh)
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
The Felix Culpa - Commitment (band from the Battle of the Bands Showcase, tre good)

Vinyl:
The Best of Ten Years After
George Thorogood

CD-less today, but have been listening to a home-made Luscious Jackson compilation over the last few days.

Love their groove!

i am really into bands like isis, pelican, neurosis, jesu, cult of luna, and lots of stoner rock. i listen to isis - panopticon atleast once a day. and my band is starting to sound a lot like neurosis since it's what the guitarist and i are mutually influenced by.

Chick and Frank

Just got the Chick Corea Elektric Band "2004 Live at Montreux" DVD for Xmas...starring one of my favorite dudes, Frank Gambale. I'll take this in as a steady diet for at least a week.
