This is certainly an interesting concept, very curious to see if it takes off.

Ahh, the old Markbass muteswitch chestnut rears its head again. Why it's not standard is very odd, it's an accepted norm these days, holding out seems to me like being stubborn for its own sake.

I love to watch how innovation is received. This thing gives you guys the abaility to only pay for what you want and need...it gives you the chance for different power and eq options...lets say you are a standup player....buy one eq section...your funk gig you just swap the preamp....it is about giving the bassist total control.

My money is on this being a hit.

Yeah I agree.....if I didnt already have my LMK I would go this route...

Actually im surprised more guys dont have the LMK even which is the 2 channel version it works great if you use two basses...like a fretted and fretless or Upright and electric.

As BP says, pay for what you want when you need or can afford it. Since I never could decide whether or not I wanted the SS preamp (aka LMII/III) or tube, I now have both - the cost differential being $100 for the the extra preamp module that I can swap out, just like Smakbass notes below. I'm digging the one I just took delivery of.

MoMark in fact addresses the mute switch issue head on, and solves it 100%.

The S1M preamp module is a solid-state preamp with a mute switch, the T1M module is a tube preamp with a mute switch. Coming up we have the S1M-HE, which is a top-grade (gold circuits) SS pre with mute switch, and the T1M-HE, the tube counterpart. I'm sure there will be many other options in the future with mute switches.

The MoMark system allows people to--for example--make a Little Mark II with a mute switch, or an SD800 with a mute switch.
And by the way, an SD800 MoMark with a mute switch would work out to be CHEAPER than an SD 800... and you have the flexibility to add different modules at any time.

Cheers,
Peter

I saw the rack live already.... cheap plastic look, not the quality the "real bass player" needs...but good idea to build your own sound. Maybe the second updated version will be more robust without the plastic "car knobs" and the uneven front panel...

Of course your opinion is valid and subjective, but I can say that I've been using a MoMark live and getting nothing but compliments on the look. Especially with the vertical illuminated yellow dividers! And I'm not sure what you mean by the "uneven front panel"?
By the way, the amp frame is made of solid ABS, which is a highly durable material. If you're really concerned about the safety of your amp, and/or throwing it around a lot, you would likely put it in a rack case anyways (which are incidentally often made of polyethylene these days).

i love it. only thing that makes me sad is that the site's in Flash:)

super interesting concept that's got my mind turning.

Flash is a lot more practical (as I understand it) for highly interactive sites like this, and in fact I'm not sure if/how the site could have its current functionality without flash. Also, it seems like most people have flash in their browsers now...

Do you think we need to consider also linking to a less functional HTML version? Do you not have flash?

I can't tell you how much we hear people say "I want a mute switch", "I want pre-EQ", "I want phantom power" etc etc etc...

Exactly!!! I love my LittleMark II, but really wish it had a mute switch and dual or triple parametric equalizers. I can dig that MoMark.

You Americans like freedom, don't you? ;)

No, not really. Its just something we say.

For the record, Peter, my LMII and the two cabinets have been going strong for nearly three years now. It's all I use.

Jack

PS: Sterling gave them to me as a birthday gift so I guess I'm out of luck with warranty! :D

Hey Peter,

The stuff has been working great for years now. I don't expect that to change.

That's me and the boss. I'm trying to blow up the Markbass while he slops ice water onto a custom one-off guitar.

I've got my perfect combination sitting in my cart - almost ready to hit the button!

I love my LMKII - bumped it out to 800w, added a tube pre-amp, added a pre/post eq, mute switch and line-out level.

I'll have MY perfect amp - with an easy cost option to experiment with alternative EQ/pre-amp sections in the future.

I know a guitarist or two that would LOVE this kind of versatility, though they're never really satisfied, are they. :p
