Edit: Well, I'm got the issue resolved so I take back my initial statement. The company's great and no hard feeling here guys. But you can tell how much i love the guitar by seeing me panic here.

I hate to bash ernieball b/c I love their products but I'm really frustrated with them right now. Well, I have a jp6 and i guess it's a common issue that the input jack breaks. I ordered a jack from them and it's really hard to take the old one off with with a desoldering gun. I scraped part of the PC board accidentally so I need to order a new piezo preamp. They told me I have to return the old one in order to buy a new one from them. But I'm a gigging musician and can't afford the turn around time. I asked whether I can return the broken preamp to them after I get the new one but got denied. I guess it will be a few years before I can get the piezo working again. Sigh.

It's likely a proprietary design and something they want to keep control of.

BTW, I sent a guitar to EB factory for repair a while back and it was returned rather quickly. Granted I live in Southern California, but the turn around time was on par with my local repair shop. Be patient, they will take care of you. Good luck.

Well, I'm waiting on my local dealer's reply to see if they can order one for me.

I can understand their policy but even I think it's kind of rigid esp for musicians who don't have the same backup guitar.

You know I wish I can have even 1 week off but I'm playing so often that i can't send my guitar off for more than 3 days.

I've had over 200 JPs come through the shop and haven't had any complaints from customers about broken input jacks. I have, however, had several people break the tip off their Monster Cable while still in the output jack, and I have replaced several jacks because they were damaged when people removed the tip.

The piezo is proprietary to EBMM and is not sold as aftermarket, so yes, that is standard policy for replacement.

I had EBMM replace a jack on one of my JP's. It was done very quickly. They had the guitar for less than a week. Now granted they may not always have that quick of a turnaround, but some other companies take months to handle a repair. I'm sure if it is very important that you have a fast turnaround, you can work it out with customer service and use express delivery to save transit time. In the meantime, you could probably borrow a guitar.

Not to nitpick guys, but it's an output jack. :D

I live in Texas and sent one off for repair, it was back in less than 10 days and perfectly setup. :)

I also have never heard of the input jack breaking. I've had four JP7's (still have 3, 1 standard, 2 BFR's) and am a gigging musician and never had a single issue with mine.

Since you already messed up the piezo board trying to replace the input jack, at this point I'd suggest just sending them the guitar and letting them replace the preamp and the jack.

If you read his post again you'll see that he can only spare _just about 3 days_ 'cause his is out gigging so very often. It doesn't matter if he gets it back in 10 days, or if YOUR guitars never got any issues. His one does.

I don't mean to sound harsh but that was a stupid answer.

We all have to bite the bullet sometime and just go through the motions.

Being a gigging musician like you say you are I sure as hell hope you don't just rely on a single guitar. You should have backups obviously.

Send the guitar off to EBMM and gig with one of your backups for a week or 2.

Back off with the name calling please It was not a stupid answer. The op says:
"i guess it's a common issue that the input jack breaks."

That is what Jeffrey and Pete are alluding to. If there was a weakness in the jack we would have fixed it ten years ago.

Shredding here it the rub and the problem here. In the past we trusted musicians to do what they agreed to and maybe 10% did it. Most of the boards and such ended up on ebay or in another brand of guitar. We started out in 1962 with no rules. Each one has been added because of customers making it necessary. You are a gigging musician and only have one guitar? Can your dealer provice you with a back up? sounds like if you damaged the preamo already once that maybe you should let us fix it.

Wow, Thanks for the fast reply here. No I have a a few les pauls but I enjoy my musicman most and I don't have a musicman backup so that's why. Hey, I think we might figure out a solution. I just called the local dealer and see if they can help to order a preamp and then I will exchange it right there.

Don't get me wrong guys, I Love the guitar so much and that's the very reason I can't gig without it even I have other guitars to use. At this moment I really can't get another Musicman.

Also as far as the jack goes, it may not be a common issue and I did hear other owner having issues with it but I take back my initial statement that it's a common issue.

Great company regardless.

I understand that you'd rather play your EBMM. That's why we're all here. They're great guitars.

But if you have another guitar to play, sending the EBMM back to get the Preamp replaced isn't putting you out at all. It's not like you *can't* play gigs without the EBMM. You say you can't afford the turn-around time, but you also say you have another guitar you can use. And a Les Paul to boot.

That's like saying you can't drive to work because your Mercedes is in the shop, but you have a F-150 sitting in the garage that runs great...

Thanks now stick around THe biggest problem with the internet is urban legend and if you dont nip it in the bud perception eclipses reality!

that is so very true Sterling... I think EBMM is the finest company when it comes to customer service... and making things right...

as for the second musicman issue... do i what i did... cut the forrest down and sell off everything non-ebmm to fund the second one... i'm down to two electrics from about 14 and i couldn't be happier... two Silos and trying to fight off the urge to buy a thrid... LOL

I hope this thread didn't leave any negative feelings towards the company (that's why i said i hate to bash) and I hope my statement help to clear things up. I'm just in a desperate situation right now. The music we play reply on the versatility of the guitar so much that it will be disappointing I can't use it at gigs. (yes, I have gigs every other day).

Again guys, if i really don't care about the guitar that much, why do i need to panic here?

Down the road i'll definitely add a new music man to my rig but just not right now.
