I like Green.
The uniqueness.
I blew my mouth off about wishing I had another opportunity to order and BP had to go and open the order window again!!!

Not to be a bummer, nor to sound preachy, but the inlays are what kept me from ordering.

I was in for the green :)rolleyes: ) in a big way, as well as the uniqueness and the forum aspects of the project. In fact, in its infancy, when the discussion was only taking place on the bass side, I would have thrown for a Bongo 4H and even talked to Pete about a quote. When guitars got involved it would have been a Silo Special.

After the rear signature graphic and then the inlays were announced, I sat on the fence. Due to my own personal and extended family history, I eventually decided it wasn't something I felt I should own.

I still think it is a great design, looks cool as hell, and is a great offering from Poppa and Dargie. And it gassed me enough to hunt down and purchase the last NOS envy green Silo Special in the US. But I just couldn't do it as a personal choice.

I struggled with same issue a bit, if I'm reading between the lines here correctly but in the end it's a bass and I'm a bass player so I decided for myself that the Irish in me wanted a unique Green Sterling. The other thing has taken enough of my life from me and it's not anymore (today!!). I reward myself now buy spending my disposable income on people and things I love...just my own personal thoughts on it. To each his own....Enjoy the Silo!!!

That's an interesting comment about the martini glass inlays, and I do understand your reasoning for not buying.

On a similar note, I wonder if the standard Bongo inlays have ever changed someone's mind about ordering. I'm guessing that could be a distinct possibility in these days and times.

When Scott took out the proto Dargie at NAMM, I looked at Sterling and asked "will this be offered on guitars, too?" After he said "Yes" the first thing I did was call Ernie1966.

The next thing you know Scott was writing up a nice order for me, Nick, and Ernie. :D

For me it was the uniqueness, the inlays (hey I get some extra ones with the JP! :D ) and the whole vibe with the forum/BP/Dargie.

Before the DD I don't think I would ever have considered a green guitar, but now I think it'll look great. I was after a JP anyway and like the idea of having one which is a bit different.

I'm sitting at home one balmy July Wisconsin night practicing my Stingray, and there's this knock on the door. I open it and, much to my surprise, it's Steve and Jack. "What the hell you guys doing in Wisconsin?" "Ah....we were just in the neighborhood and thought we'd drop by, yea, that's it, we were just in the neighborhood." "C'mon in for some beers and cheese, " I reply invitingly. "There's a Packer pre-season game on the tube in a few minutes." "Ah...no thanks" says Jack nervously. "In fact, get back in the damn house!," yells Steve. "What the..." I ask. Before I know it, I'm face down on the carpet, left arm twisted halfway up my backside, Steve and Jack both holding me down by their knees in WWF fashion. "You WILL order a Dargie Delight, WON'T you!" proclaims Jack. "An SR5 HS then, isn't it Mr. Packerguy?" says Steve. "The checkbook is in the kitchen", I struggle to get out." "Good....Good" Jack says. Before I knew it, I was the proud owner of an SR5 HS DD. I've come to accept that I will be receiving one in February. In fact, I've grown to even look forward to it. I guess I had it comin. Don't know if any of you had similar experiences.

Actually, for me it was uniqueness, sexifulness, greenness and EB Musicmanness.

Did Steve have a heavy coat on? I mean that is a little far North for a skinny guy like him to venture after July. :D

For a second there, this was going to be one of those "Dear, Penthouse--I never believed those letters, but listen to this..." deals.

Why?

I love the green. You don't seen many green basses, and I needed another Bongo.

But, it is all the better considering that I watched the genesis of the whole thing in real time. I read BP's original "Aw, **** it, let's build a ltd run of green basses," and knew I had to be in on it. :D

Why didn't the dargie's come in a maple fretboard? They'd look so much better with the maple, the green goes so well with it.

I know this isn't true because if it were, Steve would have taken your wallet.

Yup, that was pretty cool here, too. Conference calling with BP and Dargin and BP saying, "We're going to call it a Dargie Delight!" and Dargin scuttling backwards like a fiddler crab.....what choice had I? What choice had we all, really?

Hmm.

Sucks.

What sucks? Clue me in.

That BP and Dargie designed a bass for us?

That we were in on the process and got to watch it develop and become real?

That the instruments were made as affordable as possible so that more people could get one?

That it was and continues to be a lot of fun for most of us?

Or does it suck that BP and Company did it even though they knew they probably wouldn't break even, given the relatively few instruments ordered?

Maybe it sucked that some guys got one-offs?

You know what? I get a little tired of hearing that things suck.

Tell you what. You delete your post and I'll delete this one. Deal?
