What song are you guys working on learning?

Right now I'm working on Mark King's "Mr. Pink" bass solo. Great old-school (no double-thumpin') slap solo! I can figure it out by ear, but I'd love to have an accurate transcription of it. Having to repeat and slowing down the recording for getting the right notes and articulations becomes an annoying thing after some time of repeating it.

I'm a huge Mark King fan; greatest funk bass player ever! Which version of Mr. Pink are you working on? There is a studio version and several live versions.

btw, I just picked up a vhs copy of live at Wembley. There is only one ballad during the whole show, and the rest is pure Mark King funk!

I haven't been a Level 42 fan because their music is too eighties for me and I don't have one single record, but I'd buy this one at Amazon blindfolded. Not only he's a great player. Level 42 was a great funk fusion band mis-cast as 80s new wave pop. The studio stuff is pretty flat, but the live stuff is amazing! I suspect the version of Mr. Pink you have is from A Physical Presence Live -- import available from Amazon. Also check out the 2001 one DVD concert Live at Reading, also available from Amazon. btw, Mark King was using Alembic and JD basses back in the 80s.

Is that Frankenstien by Edgar Winter? I love that tune. I play it myself, Learning the ketboard parts are great too. The only part I don't play is the keyboard part towards the end. So I've rearranged the song, I now call it Colenstien as a joke to myself.

He'd take my mom and his mom backstage. Lord, two old southern ladies in a Skynyrd dressing room! But they were super nice to the ladies, and that goes a long way with me.

Nope Jack you did not. We cover a lot of songs here in Kansas. Skynyrd is what we get the most requests for. I sure wish that plane hadn't crashed. They were just hitting their stride.

Actually we just finished a toughie called "(I Wanna Go) Higher" that included brass parts. Very quick & precise parts but we all worked pretty hard and "Got 'er done". Yeah!

I have to work on rockabilly and country stuff for Cowpilot, but when I want to just lay back and get happy, yeah, XTC rocks.

Latest weirdness - "Key's in the Mailbox" and a seriously bizarre Y'allternative version of "I'll Stop The World and Melt With You".

How about XTC's "mayor of simpleton" or "peter pumpkinhead" these would go over great at SLO.

I have fun doing every Skynyrd song we do. Just takes me a bit to catch onto the basslines. Leon was a tough one to follow IMHO.

We also do the new Skynyrd too. Same response.

Makes it fun being in a cover band. Our originals are building as well. Having fun along the way is what I play for.

We don't have any brass so we improvise a bit on some. 8 of us in the band and we can't cover Skynyrd completely

Never seen an accurate skynryd tab anywhere. Therefore tab doesn't exist in my book. MOISTI
