Hmmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder where it's at.

Well, it's obviously not around here or I would have heard about it. I may try the local Wal-Mart distribution center. $14 an hour starting.

Well, I am sending three crews down to the Yucatan to resurvey some stuff that was affected by Hurricane Dean... :)

Do you have a passport? And all your shots?

Work

Stanky,

Lots of good suggestions hee:
  1. UPS - great for college students - and they target them. If you are close to a hub, you can get a loading job for the first sort (something like 6-10pm) - I believe there are 3 sorts. Good money and hours - most of the workers are college students. I did it for a time while in school, and many friends did it the whole time.
  2. Starbucks - not sure if its an 'easy' job, but a good company to work for. Health benefits for part-timers.
  3. Wal-Mart DC - if you can get in at night, great opportunities. Go for it.
  4. Jobs at school - teaching assistant, etc. Sometimes you just have to ask. Go to a history professor and just ask. Go to history department and ask. Some jobs don't reveal themselves unless you ask.
  5. Teach Bass - just put up a posting.
Your local beer distributor also has good night time work - merchandising, staging, etc. I happen to know a little bit about this. PM me your location and school, and I might be able to help. If you like - you may have personal convictions that are in conflict. That's cool.

Lastly, ADouglas' post - don't know where to start. Glad you work for a great company and worked for a better one prior. I have to say that everything you talked about has nothing to do with the size of the company. It has more to do with culture, profitability, people, and the competitive position. No need to debate it.

I work for a pretty cool $5 billion dollar company - and I'm an evil middle manager.

I plan on getting my bachelor's degree in history. Possibly secondary education.

I just like history. That's all I know at this point. I plan on getting my degree then going to Nashville or so and try and play professionally. I would do that now but getting my degree as a fallback is more important. :p

LOL, I got my BA in History. I recommend Pizza Hut. With a History degree, you may need to fall back on the Hut from time to time just to make sure there is some kind of potential access to food.

+1

The huge multinational conglomerate made famous by Andy Warhol that I work for has some pros and cons, like any company, but they've been very kind to me.

Apologies for chucking a stone that hit anyone here, but like I said....

As are we all, no?

I have no doubt that there are situations at mid- and large-sized companies that are just great. All I know is that whenever I work for a small firm, I like my job a whole lot more and those are the reasons. Take that for what it's worth, which is precisely nothing. Your situation will be different.

Whenever I've found myself in a situation that requires me to report to a person who reports to a person who reports to someone else, I have to spend more time on unproductive things and less time on actually getting the job done.

Well BP, that's what i'm wanting to do. Although we've been told that we're getting a GC here in Columbus and I haven't seen anything yet. It's been in the build plan for 5 years.....

That would be a sweet gig.

Man, that's what I should have done 12-14 years ago while in grad school in CA. Maybe, I could have afforded the EVH I wanted so badly.

Keep the faith, man.

And never underestimate the power of your friends and acquaintences.

Ask everyone you know. Everyone.

Most jobs I've gotten have been because I knew someone who knew someone. If you ask around I'll bet that most people will tell you the same thing.

When I got laid off a few years back I sent out over 100 resumes and didn't get a single interview.

I wound up getting a job through a guy in my bike club, who knew someone who needed someone like me.

I got my current job because I got referred by a guy I've known for 25 years.

Here's another thought....even if they're not hiring, be persistent. The girl in the office next door is there because she wouldn't give up when told we weren't hiring. She told me about her interview...the Boss said "You're here because you're persistent." Good thing, too...she's great. Cute, too. :D
