Yeah, I didn't really appreciate EBMM's until I got my Sabre; realized that it easily gave me the tone that most of my previous basses couldn't get.

Plus, the construction is as solid as it can get, without having an overbearing weight factor. Or price tag!

In retrospect, if I hadn't been sooo damned trade-happy, I'd not only have my current Sabre, but also three Stingrays and a Cobalt Blue Sterling (all acquired in trade, ironically).

Whattadumbf*ck! I won't be making those mistakes again.

Like most people here, I hate Warwicks because:
1) they are waaaaay too heavy for me
2) could they make the neck any fatter? and the back rougher?
3) the finish bites the big one
4) a bit too expensive for my liking
;)

Some of you guys should play my Streamer fretless. Perfectly balanced, nice *thin* neck and great tone. It looks fantastic (waxed flamed maple). The neck surface feels very similar to my Stingrays.

My old Thumb 6 sounded great but the wenge neck was hella fat and had so much neck dive, you got fatigued by the end of the first set. If you popped that thing it had the voice of god but the neck issues made it unplayable for me.

For German engineering they are very hit & miss. I wouldnt mind having an pre-90 Thumb 4. But I'd rather have a 77 'Ray.

I'll go real slow with the fender bashing. I'll start with this:

When I bought my brand new American Fender P Deluxe, I had trouble adjusting the neck because it was impossible to get a an allen wrence in the slot near the body. I called tech support. The guy didn't seem to understand why I was having a problem, and then checked with someone else, came back and told me: "The necks on P deluxes are modelled like the old Fenders. In order to adjust them you have to take thm off."

I brought it back to Guitar Center and the tech there gave me the T-handled wrench the bass was supposed to come with. If I'd have listened to the Fender tech guy - I'd have been taking the bass apart every time I needed an adjustment.

May seem minor to some, but if you call tech help for a company and that's what you get I happen to think that's HUGE. And it was only the first of the countless problems I had with that bass and them. And that bass cost as much as my 1st Bongo which makes it look like a complete toy. There is absolutely no comparison between the 2 on any level whatsoever.

I had the Streamer (LX, I think), and while it played and looked great, it was very limited in tone; best-suited for jazz (IMO).

Obviously EBMMs are my favorite ... but i have 2 USA Fenders (a P and a J) and honestly have no problem with their build quality, sound or playability.

Definately dont sound as good as my EBs (for obvious reasons - plus thats an opinion) and you just flat out cant frickin beat the feel of the EB necks (unfinished goodness). but, i mean, they're not garbage by any means. The S1 button thing on the J is pretty sweet too - tho its useless on the P (imho). Oh ya ... the tin foil bridge is just pure trash. A Badass is a must.

I do feel joe nerve on the truss rod thing. The little eb truss rod wheel-thing-a-ma-bob might be tied with Tivo as the best invention in the last 354 years! the wheel has saved tons of people tons of time and money and frustration. Go Dudley n gang! without that thing id probably never have started doing my own setups.

so ya ... ive read a lot about hit-n-miss quality (mostly miss) with most of the assembly line producers so i guess i may have lucked out. and with that i mean "i got what i expected" from the instrument. They've kept in shape the way that i expected em to. Nothing's blow me away by them tho. They're just "normal" ... nothing great, nothign unexpected was horribly crappy (just the bridge really but i knew that going in).

so my conclusion ... i dont bash Fender but I dont sing their praises either.

There are really only two major bass builders that I like. Ernie Ball and Warwick. When I read Warwick bashing threads here, I feel uncomfortable. Kinda like when my wife is trash talking my Mom. It's cool though, I know who's house I'm in.

Right on... I had A Streamer ProM... looks were ok, tone was good but 1 dimentional. I had my Bongo H and the Pro M at the same time and sold the Pro M to get another Bongo.

Are EBMM's perfect... no. There are always small details that each of us would like to see that vary according to taste (I like unfinished neck backs, for instance) but EBMM is as close to perfect as you are going to get from a factory bass... what's more, they have something for everyone... Sterlings, Rays, Bongos, 1 pup, 2 pups, etc. If you can't find your tone, you're not looking very hard.

Dude what was the doomed thread on tb? I dont go there...the pit and this place keep me busy enough

I can't find the thread over there but it was pretty much the same question as the first post here asking why all the Warwick bashing....it was finally locked down but should still be over there somewhere. It was the one where some dink called our Jackie Whacky a few names then Jack posted a link to it over on the Pit which led to that thread on the Pit being deleted and one Pitter banned because he was being a racist dink...that one.

No prob...Jack probably has the link but I don't recommend wasting any time reading it. It appears to be making the rounds though and already been nuked on TB and Pit which is why I asked why it was posted here.

Personally, i'm not a Warwick fan by any means. I've played my fair share of Warwicks and i've noticed some things about them...

They're obnoxiously heavy...

They have a synthesized sound which I can't stand...

Their pickups are weak...

And to top it all off, they look God awful.

Hey, that's just me though. If it works for you, then go for it. I, personally, would only take one if it was free. Then i'd sell it and buy an EBMM.

Why would I want one when I already have a Spector NS2J? At least the pickups are straight on it. :p

I own basses other than EB. I talk here about EB. I buy only EB from here on out.

Close this thread Please.

Nothing constructive is coming from it.
