I own basses other than EB. I talk here about EB. I buy only EB from here on out.

Close this thread Please.

Nothing constructive is coming from it.

I've never actually seen a thread closed here. Does that happen? Let's trash Fender some more....

The strap pegs came out, the mid control never worked right and I was told it was grounding issue, the tuning heads had play in them and I was told "they're all like that"..... uhhh, the little metal pieces kept falling out of the back and the authorized fender repairperson refused to fix them for me because he didn't want to be responsible if he got glue on the bass. the "humbucker" in the bridge position was the thinnest sounding, most useless piece of crap I heard in my life.

Anyone hate Laklands our there? Spectors? G&L? How about them Sadowskys. I know some of you really dislike those things. Aren't they all just Warmouth parts anyhow?

Threads actually DO get closed occasionally around here - but not often. Usually when things get out of hand, I delete the catalyst and see if it can recover. It's God's work, you know.

Re Warwicks, I made a joking comment that I wouldn't chance buying one because all their ads feature guys named P-Nut and X-Dick and whatnot, and they're all mostly white kids dressed like African witch doctors - and what if I did buy a Warwick and then became famous? I don't look like that! So I'd be scared they wouldn't use me in their ad campaigns! I don't even have a tattoo!

Something like that. And some kid called me ignorant and stereotypical, which I found hilarious.

I think my sense of humor is not for everyone.

Regarding the actual basses, I've picked up a few and found them odd and unwieldy, like a chair made of antlers. (I mean, you could sit in it if you really had to, but....)

And what's with the Slipknot guy and the hockey mask?

Anyway. Did I mention that I fully support everyone's right to choose the bass that makes them happy? But that I also reserve the right to snicker behind your back?

WTF, I've owned a boatload of good basses and a handful of bad basses and still have a few non-EBMMs around, although the poor things sense impending doom, I"m sure.

And they're right, too. Just this week, I've been thinking - I give up. Every bass I really need comes from SLO. I generally keep between 9-10 basses here, and I'm seriously considering offing the few non-EBMMs and just admitting that I'll be happier with a studio full of Stingrays and Bongos and Sterlings.

(Gotta keep the 62 Jazz RI, though - the wife gave me that one.)

What is all this guff about Warwicks being heavy? Has anyone actually compared a Warwick with a Stingray? I have, and guess which one is heavier!?!?

Right on... I had A Streamer ProM... looks were ok, tone was good but 1 dimentional.

How many times have all of us heard the same thing about Stingrays? I dunno, I never owned no Warwick.

Hey, I've got 100 posts! Do I get a cookie?

Oh 'Markarta'.... :D

I must chime in that the only Warwick of late that I've tried was a 4 string and the neck felt incredibly more cumbersome than my Bongo5 neck. That said, I always wanted to own a Dolphin Pro 5string just because of John B. Williams on the Arsenio Hall show. Aside from that, I'm pretty happy appreciating them for what they are and for the fact that finally after all of these years of the NS rip off which is the Streamer and the aforementioned borrowing of the Corvette.... now Dean has their "Sleadgehammer" I think which is the spitting image of a Thumb bass..... ahhhh , intellectual properties*

ah ha ha ha... ha.... ehhhh.

Gezus guys, this place ain't half biased is it!?

It just makes me wonder if any of these opinions are actually informed, or whether it's just regurgitation of misinformation. I own a stingray and a corvette, and hardly any of these "comparisons" ring true with me.

I will concede that a lot of their newer designs are about as ugly as a hat full of assholes - but just because you don't like the looks doesn't make it a bad bass!

Well if a woman is ugly enough to cook naked for a lumber camp, doesn't mean that she would be a bad wife, but I still wouldn't want to be seen with her...

Remember F troop? This reminds me of the stories told there by the Chief of the Hakowies in that it "Lose something in translation."

I own basses from a variety of manufacturers, so I'm not a one eyed MM/EB owner like some of the forumites here. I've played a Warwick - it sounded and played like arse and was far less ergonomic than any of my neck heavy long scale Gibsons. And that's not even mentioning the aesthetics. Those have all got to be significant contributing factors as to why you never see anybody gigging with a Warwick.

I hate Rics. They look cool in a weird sorta way but my experience with one was of a neck diving, crummy sounding, bad feeling POC. And the neck would go out of tume by a full half step if it warmed up or cooled down too much. I wish I still had it anyway.

Who wants to be constructive anyway?

Where's my cookie?

I'd say that, having owned more than one of each (actually, several of each), and having used them not only with a variety of amp config's, but also different music styles (funk, classic rock, R&B/Soul, progressive jazz, and even metal)...that the differences are noticable.

The Stingray (no longer my EB of choice>Sterling; thinner neck) was always more versatile in most of those settings (progressive jazz, aside). The Stingray tone could still be manipulated enough to blend in with each musical style, whereas the Warwick tone (regardless of model) always stuck out, sometimes like a sore thumb (pun slightly intended, but still a valid point).

Also, having gigged 3 Stingrays, 3 Corvettes, a Streamer, and currently a Sabre, I can say without a shred of "uninformed" bias that the weight of the Warwicks were like slinging a bag of bricks over my shoulder in comparison to the EB's, Fenders, Ric's, Lakland 5's, and God-knows-whatever other basses I've owned in over 26 years of gigging!

But, I do like the way they look.:D
