Hi all. I am hoping for some kind of clarity here, preferably from someone very familiar with the Axis Sport guitars.
I am considering buying an Axis Sport HSS, but its single-coils have a set of strange screws running through them (see picture).
Is there any chance, it has left the factory like that?
What could the purpose be? To be able to adjust pickup height?
I'm puzzled...

Sincerely

My '98 HSS Axis Sport definitely did not have those "extra" screws.
Have you played it? Does it seem to affect sound at all? Because honestly, the ability to adjust pickup height without removing the pickguard is kind of an appealing feature...

Look up. Waaaaay up.
Those pickups are direct mounted to the body, similar to standard P90/soapbar pickups. Highly doubtful they are stock. Did the description or seller indicate the brand of the pickups?

Single coils mounted to the pickguard are generally easier to make fine adjustments than direct or body mounted pickups.

I was of the impression that the Axis Sport had wood-mounted pickups, despite having a pickguard. The pickguard is mostly cosmetic. Am I wrong about this?
