I've used fsmith as my username for just about everything ever since I got into the IT field some 20 years ago... Only recently have I had a problem in going in late to some of the more popular places, i.e. AIM, gmail and end up using the nickname my stepkids gave me and my birthday, ferd828 or fsmith828...

Still waiting to see some explanation of some of the more unusual names...

And Smelly, my wife couldn't figure you out when she first saw your avatar and then your username... although she did assume you were from the UK. I told her she should have seen the pics of you and your guitar...

My original 'puter handle was Stratcat. About 7 years ago I needed a new one for a new ISP. Candor has always been something I've been 'accused' of having, so I went with Candid. The x is because I'm a retired porn star. Not really, it just sounds cool, like a 70's funkadelic kung fu movie. wakawowwakawkawow

I've used this as my nickname ever since I first got into the internet, so I keep it for consistency. And originality. There's not much to it besides my first name is Rafael (Ralf is just easier in english) and, well, a 12 year old child's imagination :p

I lived in Colorado when I joined this forum, but I had just got a job at a university, so I knew that I'd soon be moving to Savannah, Georgia.

This was my first (and except for three posts on another site) pretty much only forum/message board/etc. internet foray. I guess I just signed up with my initials and name without thinking to create an alternative identity. I have enough trouble keeping track of myself, much less a doppelganger.

AND you end up with only "greene" guitars! ;)

Good thing your name wasn't "Michael B. Blackpickguard"!

doppelganger

Main Entry: dop·pel·gäng·er
Function: noun
Etymology: German Doppelgänger, from doppel- double + -gänger goer
Date: 1851
1: a ghostly counterpart of a living person
2 a: double 2a b: alter ego b c: a person who has the same name as another

I had to look that one up

NorM

I'm just an easy going guy and I really didn't want to commit to just one letter. Either one would be just fine.
"N"... I'm OK with that.
"M"... That's cool too.
"N" or "M", either one's good.

When I got phone (landline) service the operator asked "How do you want your name listed?" I said "Norm". She asked "And what do you want for your last name?" I said, "Norm is the last name. Just Norm". She informed me that I had to have a first name or inital. Since I was watching a lot of Married With Children
at the time I just chose the name "Al".

It wasn't till I looked myself up in the book that I realized I had a
Norm Al
listing.

It sure made sorting out the telemarketers easy.

norm,
it's spelled n. o. r. m.
if it were spelled with a silent P.
it would be pronounced,
norm

Mine is a double meaning.

Paranoid = Black Sabbath's awesome second album and my "paranoid" personality (I really do think people are out to get me )
70 = The year the album was released as well as the year I was born

My real name is Sidney Condello, but because of numerous name changes associated with my entry into the witness protection program (that's another story), I have to create realistic yet bland online user-names. Hence the name "DavidLeeding". It's innocuous, and hides the fact that I'm wanted in seventeen countries.

Ooops. I've said too much.

Nah...just joking...I'm just not very creative.

(Or am I joking!?!)

SharonG is just pretty uninspired - it's what I came up with in a hurry.

Dr. Bongo was bestowed upon me by BP, himself - that's a keeper!!:D

Mine is a derivative of one of my first internet handles Quarterbend.
I'm a plumbing contractor and a quarterbend is the old school term for a 90 degree elbow fitting.

Mine goes all 10 years back when I was still going to sports-academy/high-school...
I used to do some wicked slam dunks and my friends said it looked like I got a grip from the surrouding air (hard to transcribe...).

Hence the nick Air-Time.
