), in order not to have huge volume jumps, I had to set the bass control to a very low setting.I just happen to have tested that this afternoon. IMO it's not really bad, delivers a credible tube overdrive and has a strong low end but it's not perfect either:
- it colours the sound so much that switching between effected and uneffected signal can sound odd.
- it delivers too much bass (yes, there's such a thing
- the "vintage" setting has again a very different sound and produces different volume, so much that it makes no sense to have "vintage" as a foot switch because you'd need to tweak the other settings in order to have even volumen levels across the sounds.
- it does not have the capability to blend the effected with the original signal.
- it's not programmable
Bottom line: I didn't like it as much as the programmable SansAmp Bass Driver D.I. (as seen in Mark's setup), mostly because I couldn't find a setting for a nice overdrive that didn't have too much bass and lacked presence compared to the original bass signal. The EBS valve drive allows for a bit more overdrive than the SansAmp BDDI, but if you're looking for high gain sounds (and have a different means to blend with the original bass signal), I'd definitely have a look at the SansAmp Tri-A.C. which to my ears produced a great sounding overdrive also for bass.
