I use a tuner (old Boss TU 6) at the beginning of a gig and sometimes after the 3rd set if it's really hot and humid. I have used a Soviet Big Muff Pi and an old '70s (AC powered) Morley power wah, but only for a song or two.

In a van, down by the river...
E-H Bassballs (US Version). The only pedal I hook up every time I play.

Various chorus pedals are nice...I usually use a E-H Small Clone. An Ibanez Phaser occassionally...

I've been having alot of fun recently with a Boss ODB-3, but mainly just for noodling at home...

At the end of the day, however, I can be very happy with no FX whatsoever!

I use a sans amp BDDI occasionally.

I've tried to love other pedals. Chorus, Octave.......could not live with any of them including the TC Chorus/Flanger.

I can usually get a nice tone out of even a marginal house bass amp when I use the BDDI.

Has anyone here tried the new EBS valve drive pedal? I was thinking of using it with the LMK II. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I just happen to have tested that this afternoon. IMO it's not really bad, delivers a credible tube overdrive and has a strong low end but it's not perfect either:

- it colours the sound so much that switching between effected and uneffected signal can sound odd.
- it delivers too much bass (yes, there's such a thing ;) ), in order not to have huge volume jumps, I had to set the bass control to a very low setting.
- the "vintage" setting has again a very different sound and produces different volume, so much that it makes no sense to have "vintage" as a foot switch because you'd need to tweak the other settings in order to have even volumen levels across the sounds.
- it does not have the capability to blend the effected with the original signal.
- it's not programmable

Bottom line: I didn't like it as much as the programmable SansAmp Bass Driver D.I. (as seen in Mark's setup), mostly because I couldn't find a setting for a nice overdrive that didn't have too much bass and lacked presence compared to the original bass signal. The EBS valve drive allows for a bit more overdrive than the SansAmp BDDI, but if you're looking for high gain sounds (and have a different means to blend with the original bass signal), I'd definitely have a look at the SansAmp Tri-A.C. which to my ears produced a great sounding overdrive also for bass.

Thanks so much, that is what I was looking for. Guess I will hold off for now and go try a SansAmp Tri-A.C.

Unibass doesn't pop up very often, since they're discontinued, but when they do, the going price is around $150-$200 on eBay. Deep Impact is more sought after, so goes for $300-$600.

I know I know they are rare !! almost had one her in Belgium (199€)
I have the deep Impact myself though (600$?? whoa nice I bought mine for 75€ ;) ) I also would like the Akai headrush though
but first on with the quest for the unibass

Are those the only 3 (bass) pedals AKAI made ?

i use the boss gt6b. i used to use it only for the volume pedal, compressor and Sound-on-Sound. However I recently used the chorus, octavor and distortion. I really love them. The chorus is on all the time now...and I use the octavor occasionally as well (i.e. with my band)

For me its the Boss bass distortion. Great fun pedal and getting a good feedback sound really scares the guitarist.

Also love the built in sub harmonics on the Ashdown amps....really fills things out.

yeah i agree. especially when playing at the high register of the fretboard. however i don't like the idea to rely on the amplifier effects since there are situations where you have to plug directly to a PA/mixer

I'm in a "no-effects" phase right now, but when the next phase rolls around, I'll probably go back to a couple of pedals I really like to use sparingly, but which are fun: an old vintage Ibanez analog flanger and a Digitech Bass Synth-Wah. The flanger is fun on ballads (I'm convinced that very pedal is the one used by the bass player playing the bass riff on Johnny Paycheck's Take This Job and Shove It) and the BSW has a great octave down and auto-wah.
