why ppl stick boosters in de loop beats me, but i'm warming up to the BB Preamp...

So you can add volume for soloing without adding more gain. This way you don't push the preamp any more - you just boost the output signal.

...or stick them in front of the amp for a touch more gain or volume (result of which is based on how much gain your preamp is already pushing)...it's not rocket science Dante!

ahhhh, that won't work for me (even though noone suggested it) cuz i got the power section running hot anyway, the powersoak allows me that extra control(i use power amp crunch to curb out the fizzy preamp gain). what i need is extra preamp gain. but at least i understand it now ;):D

How about the Ibanez Tubescreamer? I also like the MXR offerings, but I have gotten to where I am running no pedals and all amp.

i'm looking for a pedal to give my amp the kick in the sack it needs, it's got plenty of gain for most stuff, but for really heavy saturation, the pickups ain't enough.

which one would you get?

If the pickup output is the issue and not the tone itself, you might try a Seymour Duncan SFX01 pickup booster.

Personally, my favorite proper overdrive pedal is the Fulltone OCD. I also have a Digitech Bad Monkey, which is surprisingly good for the money.

+1 for the Bad Monkey. A decent pedal for a good price.

Try out a ToneBone Hot British or Plexitube pedal; I don't think you'll need to look any further.

Another Xotic BB Preamp user here! Can't say enough about this pedal! Gives my 6L6 amp more of a EL34's vibe when needed.......Sounds great in my EL34 amp as well......:D

I have read really good things about the Blackstar pedals. Havent tried em out, but worth taking a look at. I know what the amps sounds like especially the HT5 which is pased on the HT Pedals.

well, i also have the HT DISTX, it sucks as well. way unfocused and noisy. up for sale thus...

i've been giving it some further thought... i'm gonna compare the output on the D-Sonic with the output on the CrunchLab once my dargie arrives. if none of the two give me what i need in output, i think i will put a D Activator X in the bridge and some nice alnico pup in the neck. maybe DAX + Liquifire.

i have to say, the thought of constantly adding pedals to a rig starts to daunt me.

My two favorite ODs are my Analog Man modded Ibanez TS9 (I think it's as close to an original TS-808 as you can get, though I've never tried the Keeley version) and the Fulltone v.4 OCD.

Another option you could try is getting the MXR 10-band EQ pedal; that gave me a huge range of tones out of my Mesa when I had it (it can add gain as well)

Just my 2 cents- Good luck!

I've tried the HT Dual. It's quite usable, but the stock tube that comes with it is really brittle and harsh sounding. A friend of mine changed the stock tube to JJs and they were much better. Sounded a lot fuller, and smoother. Not as harsh as before.

Personally, I didn't like the HT series. I felt them a bit bright and sterile. I'm totally into the Vox Satchurator now... It's got everything I do need (except maybe if the "more" switch was a standalone OD, that would be even better!).

nope, havent. i do think that tonebones don't gel with amps to well.

Go try... You might be surprised. I actually liked the Trimode a lot better than other Radial pedals. It's got what you'd want your amp to have, and it does work well with many amps I tried it on. (including a Fender HotRod Deluxe)
