Non locker hither... don't think I even gotta key... but chances are I would lose the key too..... or more to the point I would leave it logically in the most illogical place that only I think is logical. Then someone (generally this someone has always been either parent or girlfriend) will move it somewhere they deem more logical but is to me completely illogical. Ie logical places for me include under underwear and any general dirty clothing, fridges or in my shoes.

bass cases are useless

It never occurs to me to lock my bass case because I
a:never use the hardshell it came in ...always a Levy gig bag.
b:travel with the bass in an SKB bass safe(the best peice of gear ever for traveling bass players)
c:When on the road i never leave my bass anywhere. Not the dressing room, on stage, back stage...definatly not in the truck overnight!(every year there is a benefit gig for some poor shmucks that got their van stolen with all the gear in it )

I've never locked a case, but there was one time I wish I did. I was 17 and had worked hard to buy a new Ric 4001. I kept it mint. I also left it at my guitarist's house after practice since I'd be back the next day to practice.
The "little brother", an aspiring bassist must have bounced it off his belt buckle a thousand times that night. I've never seen such damage (way down to bare wood) in 24 hours. There's more to the story, but it might have been prevented if I had locked the case. I'm (much) older now. My bass goes where I go.

Never lock my case and never have needed to... I take that back, in '91 my singer had one too many and while we were ripping down he used my case for a "waste" recepticle (true story)... needless to say that one (case and singer) are no longer with me. But Funktown has it right, when I am out my basses never leave my sight

I lock mine when it's going on a plane. Or if for some reason it is going to be out of my hands for a while.

I used to lock them at gigs. I used to always have little kids coming up and playing my gear and it used to piss me off. Not that I mind encouraging people to try playing an instrument, it's because no one takes as good care with my equipment then I do. And if I find a scratch or a dent in my bass that wasn't from me, it would make me angry everytime I saw it.

Although now I never lock my case. No one's game enough to steal my stuff :p

Then again when you walk into my living room, all you see is speaker boxes and guitars, and I never lock my house :S

When I were but a lad an old seasoned plucker of the strings once advised me never to lock my case. The reason he gave was that he had always locked his case until one dreaded day his treasured instrument was stolen. As the thief didn't have the key he forced the lock with a screwdriver and in so doing put it right through the case and gouged a horrible deep scratch into the body of the guitar. The beloved instrument was eventually recovered by the fine upstanding lawmen of Scotland and the sorry cuplrit was dragged away never to be seen again. The old chap did receive his guitar back and it played fine but it did have that awful gouge in it. He said that if his guitar had to have a gouge in it he wanted to be the one who put it there. The guitar just never felt the same after the theft. He argued that if the case hadn't been locked the guitar would have been recovered without the offending damge. So, that must be the longest possible ever explanation as to why I don't lock my case. If you've manged to read this far then you're a better man than me!

 I wonder if every EB case takes the exact same key......................

As far as I know. I've had two cases and both had the same key. Could be a random conicidence or not.

Like I said, I only lock my case when it is somebody else's. :D
