As I mentioned in my picture post, I spent a lot of time driving around the state looking at and playing Classics. I probably played at least a dozen of them before I bought mine at Bass Central. Every single one I played was fantastic and I didn't notice any flaws or problems. The only concern I had was after seeing some at the various Guitar Centers, not all of them had very impressive neck woods. I would definately want to see the classic in person before I bought it............OR some very good pics of the neck/fretboard wood.

Unfortunately in the UK you cannot do this as we hardly have any, but if they end up changing mine around or ordering another I want detailed pics of it first.

As Grand Wazoo and DTG have said in the past also, we have to generally buy sight unseen in UK, unless we are lucky enough that the distributor already has the same spec bass in the warehouse. It's so unusual for EBMM instruments to have issues though.

Movielife I'm gutted for you having to send it back - I didn't really understand your post - are you waiting on a replacement classic or having a special order for a regular 2 band H Stingray as a replacement?

Meanwhile (and I'm sorry to bore you guys!) no further news on my Classic - I appear to have ordered a very rare colour ;) .............perhaps I should post some dealer pics :p

Its going back tomorrow, I was literally SO stressed yesterday about it. I realise as it was within a few hours of it being delivered I have nothing to worry about it due to the right we get when buying something unseen. I have yet to find out what Strings & Things are doing yet. Whatever happens, Im aware the ball is in my court. Ive got two more basses on order so Im a pretty damn good customer.

I might wait it out for another Classic to come in, get another colour, or get a regular 2 band EQ Ray.

I still love EB btw....I ALWAYS end up with a problem though. Just my luck. Makes me look mental when I complain but my store has just seen the pics of the neck pocket and he is agreement that it is not correct.

He said he didnt even think to check it....its a Stingray! They always have good neck pockets hahaha.

Looks like a wait for me. Im just hoping they understand how bad the neck issue is when they get it back.

I'm not surprised you were stressed

With your dealer's permission, it may be worth talking to Strings and Things - they are excellent and I can't praise them enough - they have always helped me.

During the process of buying my classic I have found out there are tobacco burst, white and black just arrived in the UK. Absolute Music Solutions have a batch being delivered - I'm not sure if they're reserved/sold already but maybe there's a way the importer can swap your bass if there's another of the same spec - pure conjecture on my part but maybe worth exploring.

I hope it's sorted quickly for you.

Ive spoken to Strings & Things a few times before all of this and they were great. My worry was they said with this issue, they have to see it then they decide what to do. They said they may even 'repair' in house, which I have told them I cannot accept. Its brand new...it doesnt need a repair and you couldnt repair it without a very skilled luthier. Then it becomes remanufactured so to speak and it cannot be sold for the full amount.

I think if those are the only colours left Im in for a wait. I think I had the only white one, and the other colours I wanted were either Powder Blue/Mint Green or Coral Red.

Thanks for the help :)

I was at my local Guitar Center the other day and say a couple of classics. Both were the mint green 4 strings. 1 was about 200$ more for the "classic" neck and i was kind of dissapointed. if i had to choose between the 2 i wouldve gotten the regular neck because from a visual standpoint that neck barely had any...character? to it. it didnt pop like "DAYUMMM" when i see some pics on here. so i def agree with the one post about seeing it in person first.

I put a white guard and pup cover on mine yesterday. The Classic White/Tort look was great, but the white guard really makes the buttercreamy character of the Classic White finish stand out. It's such a great color ... looks like vanilla pudding. I get hungry looking at it. This thing is just effin cool. LOVING it.

Just to conclude, as predicted, Strings & Things are helping out a lot with my Classic problem. I might be in for a wait, but I shall be positive about it!

Hi everyone

Unfortunately I cannot get another Classic in the UK due to various reasons, mainly stock. I think EBMM will have the pics of my neck pocket issue soon so I'm sure any issues with future Classics will be sorted. My Classic has had to be sent back, and despite the fact I'd still quite like one I'm going to leave it for now and stick to the other EBMMs I have incoming. Tis a shame but I'll probably get a normal 2 band Ray if I miss having a 4 string. My faith in EBMM and S&T UK is still 110% positive; cannot wait for my Ray 5 and Big Al 5!

That Ernie Ball Factory is a Class act, That is a VERY PRO ran Company so I have to say Hats Off to Poppa, I love the way he runs his Camp. I feel very Honored to Play the best Basses on Earth and you'll be too.

Looks repairable.

Mine has a small finish blemish as well, right next to the battery cover, as if a screw had scratched it before it dried. Unfortunately, I found it just after the 30-day return period in GC so there's nothing I can do about it :(. It plays too well to sell/return, but it still bugs me a little, being the first bass I ever bought new.

That looks repairable to me. I know this will make some people shudder, you probably can fix that. I repaired much worse on my Surf Green Classic. It had several areas with dings from hanging on the wall at GC. Stew-Mac sells a super fine grain sanding set this is foam backed. The higher grits are less abrasive than most guitar polishes. Unless the scratch is deep you should be able to work through the grits, wet sanding, until the finish is perfect. Then for good measure finish with guitar polish. The trick is to work lightly and slowly. And to have the right materials. I did this two months ago and achieved perfect results (and I am very anal). You can not see any sanding, swirl or even polishing marks. It is perfect. Here's the disclaimer. I did it along edges and the sides of the bass. I would expect there to be more opportunity for lesser results on a big flat area due to light reflection. You don't want to create a concave surface at the repair spot. Check out the Stew-Mac website. The product is made for doing this--just be careful.

One other thing, you can sand for a long time on the finish using the finest grit and never notice a thing. It is that fine.

What... Is... The... Deal?

I haven't seen as many as I thought I would by now... One-zies, two-zies here and there... Not much of a color choice/selection either... I would love to buy a natural/black pickguard/maple neck/4-string...
:(

The first big wave of 5 string classics have landed at your local GC around the country! All the colors are out there. And, from what I have seen so far in my travels they are beautiful and play and sound great!
So, anybody who's been awaitin', head on done to your local GC this weekend and check them out!

I'll verify for you Guy! Same for you Nick! Surely someone nobody has ever met must be proof enough. Haha!
