I used to own an MXR Carbon Copy and thought it was great, especially for the price. I used a POD X3 now so I sold all my pedals. Had to cause I moved to Europe, everything went. Amp, pedals, and almost all my guitars. Now I am left with 1 guitar....my MM Axis. Anyways, I would check out Andy's demo's at Pro Guitar Shop on Youtube, he's got great stuff on there and lets you really hear how the pedal sounds like. Thats what I used to do when I was looking for pedals, never failed me. I don't try pedals in the store, different guitar, different amp, different surroundings. With 30 days to return, I just buy it and if I like it I keep it, if not I'll return it.

I think the bottom line here is that there are a zillion quality delays in the market right now. If you're just looking for a decent delay, you'll probably be good with just about anything.

If you want something more specific, think about the features that might matter to you- i.e. different delay modes (analog, digital, tape, modulated), single vs. multiple presents, mono/stereo, instrument/line level, etc. Any of these will narrow the market for you.

On my main board I have a DD20, I only need 3 or 4 presets but don't want to have to tweak them during a gig (also I really like the modulated delay sounds). On my small board I'm happy with the TC Flashback. I have to manually tweak that one, but it sounds fantastic.

+1
Beej is right : most of the pedals sound good. You have to see what are your requirements.
In my case, I need : several presets, tap tempo, strange sounds (that means reverse delay, long delay ... all the stuff that can be done only at a reasonable cost with digital technology). Thus, Electro Harmonix is good for me (Electro Harmonix is very good for making digital stuff that sounds as dirty as analog stuff).

I personally love TC Nova Delay. Small enough to fit in a pedal board, yet has everything I need:

- tap tempo
- presets
- digital/analog knob
- easy interface
