Help! Which EBMM for ME?

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of buying an EBMM guitar but I can't decide which one to get, so who better to ask than the guys who play the guitars the most. I'm looking for something that sounds 'Les Paulish' but with more bite in the bridge for bigger distortion and a trem. It doesn't necessarily have to be a floyd rose but something that'll move nicely and stay in tune. I've got an eric johnson strat and a Les Paul Standard. I want a cross between the strat and the les paul but that's capable of big distortion sounds.

Hey man thanks for the reply. BFR? Ball Family Reserve? What's the difference between that and the standard JP models? I was kind of leaning in a JP direction alright but wasn't sure.

The standard JP has a solid basswood body. The BFR versions come with an Alder body, a Mahogany "tone block" and a book-matched maple top. The Koa version has a solid Mahogany body. The BFR models all come "fully loaded" so you get the piezo pickups under the bridge saddles, the matching headstock and the JP inlays. You now get your choice of a Flamed or Quilted top in the BFR's along with a beautiful range of color options.

The wood differences in the BFR's really make them have a similar bright, but warm tone like an LP. The quality difference, however, is unimaginable until you try one. The JP's come with a wonderful trem that gives you a floyd-like float, but without the horrible string-changing experience and stays in tune wonderfully.

not that the jp's aren't a great guitar but, if your looking at a "les paul killer" the forum just did a poll on it and the axis was winning at 75% last I checked owning all the models i can vouch for the axis with the floyd as the most bulletproof guitars I've ever played,owning 15 I must kinda' like em' I own 8 pets too,if your really lucky you can find a rosewood top and neck out there .Will fill the bill of what your desiring!Awsome warm tone and sweet bite!

Hi Shredbetter, I've always liked the look of the axis alright. I live in Ireland and virtually no guitar shops stock EBMM on a regular basis so there's nowhere to try these guitars out. I've heard the Axis doesn't have a huge distortion sound. What do you think?

Silhouette Special, with 2 single coils and a humbucker. Great single coil tones and a rockin humbucker.

Maybe you should go with the BFR Axis Super Sport! Best of both worlds!

If you're looking for a LP killer, check out the Axis and the Axis Super Sport.

The Axis is a dual humbucker guitar with a Floyd Rose trem. Simple controls: one volume knob and a three way switch. It's a definite LP killer, and can handle rock, hard rock, and metal.

The Super Sport is also a dual humbucker guitar, but it has a few different configurations. You can get hardtail, vintage trem, hartail with piezo, or vintage trem with piezo. Controls are pretty simple on this one too. One volume, one tone, and a five way switch. It gives the SS a few extra tonal options.

Ditortion largely depends on your amp and effects, and the Axis can definitely handle it.

Normally, I would just say get yerself an Axis Super Sport. I got two of 'em. They'll handle the heavy stuff - distortion and whammy abuse - very nicely.

That said, the JP6 BFR and the Super Sport BFR have really caught my interest lately ....

Ha dwells I think you're trying to tell me something...luke BFR is it? lol! I've got the steve lukather Emgs on my jackson and kind of want something different to active pickups. Thanks TonyEVH5150 and Mikey that sounds good. The axis is one of the slickest looking guitars out there. It can be hard to tell from youtube clips how it sounds. What was the first album that EVH started using the axis on?

The JP or the Axis are all great choices. The Y2D is another one. Hell...even the Luuke will throw down. Sorry, I cannot help you...

Similar wood combo to the JP BFR with the mahogany tone block and maple cap, but you've got standard 3 way switching and the humbuckers are PAF style - more in the LP style but with a virtual PAF in the Neck and a Virtual Hot PAF in the Bridge to beef up the gain a bit. im from Ireland too and i own a BFR JP6 model.there an amazing instrument no doubt about it.there isnt any shop in the country that stocks a good variety of EBMM guitars.
