with me?

I have a great video tutorial that Id be more than happy to share with you! Perhaps we can share our progress with said solo here within the forum! Send me your emails if you'd like the file!

Rock on!

Edit:

I just realized how Google Drive works it's not sending the actual file.. It just redirects you to a webpage that has the content so I figured I'd link everyone right now.

Here you are!

Yeah I got it. Ordered a set of 12-52's. Hope they fit the nut slots!

awesome. I know you'll do it justice! Which Axe are you going to use for it you think? The JPXI? Perhaps the JPX?! If you're going to actually record yourself covering it I'd LOVE to see you record it on the JPX! I'm going to do my best of covering it here too... Just give me a year or five. ;)

Gonna use the JPXI. It hasn't been featured in a good video yet and the set I ordered is for a six string. This solo is gonna be a tough one for sure. I'll record it and all that jazz. I'm thinking I'll show the progress over the course of a few weeks and were I'm at with the metronome.

I figured the JPXI would be unleashed for this one! That would be amazing! I'll probably only be able to play it at the speed he slows it down to when he's breaking it down. I'm simply not that coordinated yet.

Okay, I started working on this thing yesterday morning at about 7:30 am. Since I didn't have the large strings yet I just practiced it in the right key but down two whole step positions. Now I have 12-52s installed and have it tuned to C standard. I've been playing throughout the day but finished learning the entire solo a few hours ago. I'd say between yesterday and today I've worked on this thing at least twelve hours. It's a hard friggin' solo!!!! I'm getting the hang of it though and am full aware of my problem areas. I'll continue to refine it so that's it's as smooth as it can be. Here's the worst quality video I've ever done to show where I'm at right now.

HOLY COW MAN! What the hell?! I was expecting this to take up to a month at least.. I'm kinda in disbelief right now to be honest! I'm going to attempt to start learning it only because you just inspired me to.

Here goes nothing...

Also, that picture in the beginning, hilarious hahahahaha!

I drink about a pot of black coffee from morning until noon and then switch to red bull. REALLY. Haha. I'm no pro shredder but dammit, it's what I want more than anything. So... hours, hours, hours. I spend as much time as I can with a guitar in my hands. I'm glad you're going to stick with it Devin. You know, I'll never play these as good as the man himself but that's okay with me. I'm learning so much along the way. John is a master at alternate picking and that's something I'm not very good at. I do a lot of economy picking myself and incorporate alternating when is needed and when I can. You take what you can, know what I mean? I look at every section as an exercise to improve my abilities overall. Even that second section with all the sextuplets is an awesome chance to work on coordination and dexterity. A guy could learn a lot just from that! Like anything, the more JP you learn the more you begin to understand that it's not magic or any grand concept you're not getting. It's all hard work and lots of it. But, you begin to absorb it and then it becomes part of your own playing. I've spent since I was 12 years old trying to cop from the best. From 13-18 it was almost all Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and Rocco Prestia. Then it was all Stevie Ray Vaughn and Hendrix. I've wanted all my life to be able to shred a guitar like JP, Yngwie, John Sykes, Doug Aldrich, Morse, etc. It's taken this long to be able to break through my own personal barriers. It never ends though. You do it because you love it and there's no better way on earth to devote your time. After a third or half of your lifetime you then begin to finally feel like you're accomplishing something. Enjoy the ride!

I'd love a crack at it. [email protected]

I'm getting close to nailing the end of the backs of angels solo. I've always wanted to tackle this one.
