5? well, i have 6. and ive had 2 redhead girlfriends too.

anywho... why 6?

well, almost all of mine are different configs. the only duplicate i have is a single H Sterling. got one in blue dawn and one in buttercream. personally i never thought id have "duplicated" but when i played the buttercream i had to have it.

as far as "the only difference being HS, HH" etc. well, id argue that the pickup configs are a HUGE difference. i have one of each config for a sterling and an HH and H Ray. the "extra" PUP makes a whole world of a difference - even between HH and HS they're different animals. i like em all.

but like BP said, there is an element of "because i can" involved. I was fortunate enough to work hard and get a job(s) that allow me to "play". recently ive been putting in 14, 15 hour days at work then coming home and doing more work (emails and all that other bs). personally i really, really like playing music. maybe i could be better than i am, and maybe i got more instruments than my skills warrant but many times Ive treated a new purchase as a reward to myself for working so damn much/hard. ya, i could save my money but that doesnt make me happy. playing guitar and bass does. so every once in a while i make sure that all the bills are paid, im not digging myself into a financial hole and buy myself a nice instrument in order to enjoy the fruits of my long hours in front of this keyboard :)

Is this clown for real?

Maybe he should drink decaf?

Maybe he's mad because his job at Chik-Fil-A only allows him to afford one Samick bass?

Let's hope that "adios" was for real....

To me, having the multiple basses makes perfect sense.

Chances are you have a book case or shelf somewhere, why?

Why have lots of books?

Because everyone is different and has it's own unique qualities, even from the same author.

same with basses, each one has it's own character and has a different tone from different slabs of wood.

I can only assume that english is your second language.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, junior. And, thanks--I will keep playing the bars and weddings. Not the funerals, though. Too many stiffs. And, I'll keep buying more Musicmans, too, just to piss you off.

OK, I know those guys Im addresing now are gonna jump on me like hungry wolves, but still I gotta ask this...I often see that certain members lists their basses underneath their posts, and some of those guys having 3-5 musicman basses, sometime only difference being HH,HS,maple or rosewood, and ofcourse colour. Isnt that---at least---unnecessary? I know, again, that this is EB forum, and being huge fan of his basses (always been and will!!!), having SR5 myself, Im not against one or two musicmans, but unless youre EB endorser and they send you dozens, why not have different good basses for different sounds, feel, and look? Are you serious about your playing or only about your collecting?

Why have 5? 'Cuz that's a number that you have to go through to get to your goal of 6 . . . . . or 7 . . . . . or 8 . . . . . . or whatever . . . . . :D :D :D :D

Maybe we should re-name this thread "Music Man... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways..."

It's great to hear all of your input about your *ahem* "sickness" ;) My Mom collects antique dolls and I do not tread lightly on the world "collects". Those freaking things are everywhere and have been everywhere for my whole life growing up. She keeps trying to get me into collecting dolls but I just won't have it. When I make some sort of comment about how many dolls she has she retorts "there's collectors and there's non-collectors. You've just never been a collector so you wouldn't understand".

The difference between collecting antique dolls and collecting Music Man instruments is that you don't see my Mom playing with her dolls -- you do see Music Man collectors playing with their Balls, though. These collectors at least collect stuff that they use.

the implication that playing bars and weddings is a bad thing is really horrible, ignornt and rude. Just because someone isnt playing a sold out amphitheater doesn't mean they "arent allowed" to have as many instruments they can afford. Also doesn't mean that they're not a top shelf player like that dude up on stage in front of 30,000 people.

We play cuz we love it. Us regular forumites all get that - that's why we get along. and thats why folks like you get pissy and leave the forum. its a state of mind thing, its a respect thing, its a family thing...

adios dude

For those among us who earn their living by their axe, I certainly understand the "need" for a different sound for different musical situations.

But for the rest of us weekend warrior giggers, there's certainly no "need" for multiple Musicmen. I chose to own two, soon to be three, and perhaps more, because I'm at a point in my life where I can afford to comfortably do so, i.e. I've "earned" the right to own as many damn basses as I please. Part compulsion, part passion, part selfishness, part inquisitiveness, part the collector in me (though 4 basses a collector hardly makes). And I enjoy taking two basses to a gig and changing it up between sets.

tossing around insults at people you dont know is plain old stupid especially people who are stand up dudes.

if youre gonna insult my/our friends then we'd rather not have you here in our happy lil corner of the internet

Oh, let's leave it open.

Let the Forumites have their way with him.

Pretty funny - me, a redneck? Must be the hat that threw him off.

I think he's just mad about all my basses.
