5? well, i have 6. and ive had 2 redhead girlfriends too.
anywho... why 6?
well, almost all of mine are different configs. the only duplicate i have is a single H Sterling. got one in blue dawn and one in buttercream. personally i never thought id have "duplicated" but when i played the buttercream i had to have it.
as far as "the only difference being HS, HH" etc. well, id argue that the pickup configs are a HUGE difference. i have one of each config for a sterling and an HH and H Ray. the "extra" PUP makes a whole world of a difference - even between HH and HS they're different animals. i like em all.
but like BP said, there is an element of "because i can" involved. I was fortunate enough to work hard and get a job(s) that allow me to "play". recently ive been putting in 14, 15 hour days at work then coming home and doing more work (emails and all that other bs). personally i really, really like playing music. maybe i could be better than i am, and maybe i got more instruments than my skills warrant but many times Ive treated a new purchase as a reward to myself for working so damn much/hard. ya, i could save my money but that doesnt make me happy. playing guitar and bass does. so every once in a while i make sure that all the bills are paid, im not digging myself into a financial hole and buy myself a nice instrument in order to enjoy the fruits of my long hours in front of this keyboard
