Why John Petrucci switched from Ibanez.

Ha.. that's funny. However, those Picasso graphic JPMS were worthy instruments and arguably the best Dream Theater stuff was recorded with them.

I still have my JPM P4 and its still a great playing guitar!! The quality and the tonal variety capable with the JP13 I just got though is a complete different animal!

I bet you think Kevin Moore was the best keyboard player they had, too? lol just kidding - I know some people that haven't listened to them for years but still argue that "Awake" is the best album, Kevin moore was the best, Labrie has nothing on Dominici, etc etc.

But I do want one of those Picassos so bad... too bad every penny of my disposable income goes to more Balls :)

I think someone did a custom paint job on a JP 6 with the Picasso face painting on it. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I have had my P4 since '99. I always meant to get a P3 cause I thought it was the coolest looking one, just never have.

Kevin Moore's side project with Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) is called OSI. There second album "Free" is in my all time favorite album top 10 list with out a doubt. Saying amazing does not do it justice. The next album Blood is really good as well, but more straight foward instead of all the sampling and editing from the first 2. Portnoy played on the first 2 and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine tree) played on the next 2. Of course Moore has been playing with Fates Warning for many years now as well.

I actually liked the old Ibanez paint scheme.

The story I heard was that Vai has the only Ibanez 7 string signature model locked up by contract. I don't own any of the old Petrucci Ibanez's but I do have an early RG3120. Not a bad guitar by any means, but reference the thread on Floyd Rose vs Vintage trems for my thoughts on that.

I saw John play a Music Man on tour before I even knew that he'd left Ibanez, the very first show that they played Metropolis live. I bought the first MusicMan Petrucci that I ever saw and I've only bought Music Man (6) guitars and a JTV Variax since.

As I am a keyboard player too I'll leave the following comment: I wish I had Rudess's chops, Sherianians showmanship and box of tones, and Moore's moody brilliance in songwriting (I love OSI and Chroma Key).

Phoenix at the Celebrity Theater I take it? First for both Rudess and the MM guitars.

That was it. LaBrie had a little trouble remembering all the words. The only time I've been there when they didn't have the stage rotating.

Great show though, I really love celebrity theater. Saw J.P. play G3 there with the spinning stage.

I was at both of those as well! ;-)

Spoke to JP about it a few years back. He laughed and smiled when I brought that show up. It was quite memorable for him as well.

Currently have a P3 & P4. I had a P2 that I sold for my first JP6 years ago. Still have that JP and just added a PDN Neptune. They are different animals, but I love them all.

I don't know why he changed over, but it was a good choice. All of the Ibanez signatures are too similar for my taste.

Wasn't the JP Ibanez basically just an RG with the volume pot moved slightly farther away from the bridge pickup?
