I have 4 Silhouettes.
My first one is an 86 3x single coil with a rosewood neck (6 bolt). The red laquer has something wrong with it...it probably was not catalysed properly and as a result looks like a relic. Sounds fantastic especially after getting rid of those boring and bland DiMarzio's and replacing them with some Voodoo's.

My second is a natural 91 3 x single coil with a rosewood neck (6 bolt). Indian rosewood I guess because it is fairly light in colour. Again I replaced those damn DiMrzio's with some fantastic Bareknucle "Irish Tours" with a zinc baseplate on the bridge pickup. A fabulous tone!

My third is a white HSH with a rosewood neck (5 bolt) and a trem. A bit heavier but again I've replaced the humbuckers with some Bareknuckle VH11's and it sounds great.

The fourth guitar is on long term loan from a friend. It is a sunburst SSS with a maple fingerboard. However I can't replace those pesky DiMarzio's.

Which leads me to my two questions.

Why are there no stock SSS's in the Silhouette range out side the Albert Lee?

Why are there not a range of alternative pickups offered?

I am sure that the SSS format would be enhanced by offering a range of pickups with more tone and character.

Answer to #1 ..demand

Answer to #2 we actually spec'd those awful pickups! We like them. When we first did the Silo you could change the pickguard to anything you wanted just unscrew the 7 pickguard screws and there was a molex connector and you were done....I envisioned being able to spec exactly what you wanted..seymours, emgs etc...(that was twenty something years ago) The problem is at that time Seymour and emg were being very snobby and selective about what guitars came oem and they turned me down as they didnt think we were a valid guitar company.
The best blessing I got was when I first bought Music Man I also thought i would be cool if you could buy a stingray with anybodys pickup so I approached EMG and Rob Turner turned me down. Im glad he did because it would have sent me down the road to generic city.

YOu would have thought that Seymour would have supported us being just up the road 90 miles but they had tunnel vision..only gibsons and fenders or better yet Fender copies.,

So far, you've got 3 different brands of pickups in 3 of your guitars. If EBMM were to offer that facility, the amount of stock that they'd have to carry, or order would make it a logistical nightmare.

Like Rob said, the Silo special comes in SSS configuration.

It was a good question

Keep in mind that each time you add one option it is about 50 more cominations that we make and we are over 100,000 possibilities.

We off er so many choice and it is sometimes hard for pople to understand that it isnt a custom shop in the traditional sense

Does my 2001 Silo have the molex connector?

I'm about to replace my bridge pickup. The PAF is far from awful, it just isn't my thing.

The molex connector is not to change Pickup but to remove the Pickguard. So if you want to change one pickup only you have to do a bit of soldering :)

Aye I've played that guitar.
The one and only time I've played a Silhouette.
I remembered the pickups being Rio Grande hence why I deduced that.
Was a very nice guitar though. Of course it was its a MM ;)
You will find my babies in your colour thread.

A person's taste in pickups is akin to beer---If you go over to someone's house, open the fridge and don't like the choices in there, run on up to the store a get what you like.
