I have 4 Silhouettes.
My first one is an 86 3x single coil with a rosewood neck (6 bolt). The red laquer has something wrong with it...it probably was not catalysed properly and as a result looks like a relic. Sounds fantastic especially after getting rid of those boring and bland DiMarzio's and replacing them with some Voodoo's.
My second is a natural 91 3 x single coil with a rosewood neck (6 bolt). Indian rosewood I guess because it is fairly light in colour. Again I replaced those damn DiMrzio's with some fantastic Bareknucle "Irish Tours" with a zinc baseplate on the bridge pickup. A fabulous tone!
My third is a white HSH with a rosewood neck (5 bolt) and a trem. A bit heavier but again I've replaced the humbuckers with some Bareknuckle VH11's and it sounds great.
The fourth guitar is on long term loan from a friend. It is a sunburst SSS with a maple fingerboard. However I can't replace those pesky DiMarzio's.
Which leads me to my two questions.
Why are there no stock SSS's in the Silhouette range out side the Albert Lee?
Why are there not a range of alternative pickups offered?
I am sure that the SSS format would be enhanced by offering a range of pickups with more tone and character.
