...for a used 2001 SR5 Trans Red in practically NEW condition? It still has the plastic on the pick guard.

I have the opportunity to pick this up locally, but not sure if this is a solid deal. I'm leaning toward YES, but wanted some input from my fellow knuckleheads.

I paid a little more than that for my SR5 and though I got a good deal - seems like a no-brainer to me if you're in the market.

Thanks Rick,

I haven't seen the bass in person yet, as the guy is a little far for me to take a casual ride. I'm planning on meeting him tomorrow, so we'll se, but from the pics it looks almost brand new, with some nice bird eye on the neck.

My main concern was that it's a 10 year old bass. Are they STILL worth that much? How much did it sell for back in 2001?

Taking currencies into account, I paid more for my 15 Year old fretless SR5! I believe newer SR5's are moving at around $900 to $1000 right now so I would not hesitate too long. If possible play it first of course. :)

Buy it and if you don't like it sell it to one of European heads that would cost me around 1500 euros !
And I would nearly kill for trans red sr5 with a maple board

I am going to meet the guy tomorrow afternoon, and if all goes well, I will bring this baby home! The only deal breaker for me would be a bad neck, but let's hope this is not the case.

PLUS the way I look at it, if I don't like it, I can get ALL of my money back RIGHT?

Good deal. 10 years old in pristine condition.... It's almost to the point where it's value starts going UP. :)

I think you could resell it without much trouble for that price.

BUT most importantly, go with your instinct when you play it.

The neck looks figured and it's got the old school pickguard and pickup cover. Go for it!
