I headed down to GC to see what was on sale (not much) but on the way out my eyes came across a gorgeous honeyburst Axis Super Sport. I was going back and forth on a Les Paul (some of which were $500 off) but none of them really spoke to me. Felt nice, but I didn't even plug it in because of all the wannabe Kurt Cobains in the downtown Seattle store were kindly preventing that
Didn't matter, when I plugged it in at home it came through the speakers like a MONSTER. The dual-Dimarzios ripped when both were lit up, but funnily enough this guitar also has the versatility to sound nice and smooth when in single coil mode. It out-Telecasters my Telecaster when I want it to, and has also removed all cravings for Les Paul humbucker tone at the same time. Amazing instrument, and I'd encourage anyone who's looking at upgrading their LP, Strat or Tele to check it out before looking at a vintage RI (yawn) or artist special edition (double yawn) from the "other guys".
The Axis SS really is something different!
Quick question - shouldn't this guitar have come with a MM hardshell case? Although I've only ever owned MM basses before (4 of them!) every one came with a very nice MM case. Hmmm...
Anyway, thanks everyone at Music Man for keeping me a strong believer! You and Ric will save the industry from itself (someday somehow).
