I headed down to GC to see what was on sale (not much) but on the way out my eyes came across a gorgeous honeyburst Axis Super Sport. I was going back and forth on a Les Paul (some of which were $500 off) but none of them really spoke to me. Felt nice, but I didn't even plug it in because of all the wannabe Kurt Cobains in the downtown Seattle store were kindly preventing that :)

Didn't matter, when I plugged it in at home it came through the speakers like a MONSTER. The dual-Dimarzios ripped when both were lit up, but funnily enough this guitar also has the versatility to sound nice and smooth when in single coil mode. It out-Telecasters my Telecaster when I want it to, and has also removed all cravings for Les Paul humbucker tone at the same time. Amazing instrument, and I'd encourage anyone who's looking at upgrading their LP, Strat or Tele to check it out before looking at a vintage RI (yawn) or artist special edition (double yawn) from the "other guys".

The Axis SS really is something different!

Quick question - shouldn't this guitar have come with a MM hardshell case? Although I've only ever owned MM basses before (4 of them!) every one came with a very nice MM case. Hmmm...

Anyway, thanks everyone at Music Man for keeping me a strong believer! You and Ric will save the industry from itself (someday somehow).

If it's a new instrument, then yes they are all shipped from the factory in OHSC's -You may want to have a little chat with the retailer you purchased it from. I believe they have a return policy and you might be able to leverage the case out of it. There are other dealers, including some who frequent this board, who will give you a good price and appropriately include the case.

In any case welcome aboard - you may want to drop in over on the bass side of things too since you're also well aquainted with those fat stringed rumblers.

And by the way seeing is believing
IF THERE ARE NO PICS....IT DOES NOT EXIST :D

Ok, I don't mean to steal your thunder ghunter but I also bought an Axis Super sport a couple of months ago and have yet to post any piccies so here is a couple.

I love this guitar. The Axis was a bit too 'rock' for me, not versatile enough, but the Superspoirt is a bit softer and has some lovely single coil tones. The necK humbucker is sweet as you like (I think the vintage trem and tone controls make it much sweeter than on the standard Axis) and the bridge gives all the cutting rock drive I want.

I seem to only be able to attach one piccy so that's it so far

Here she is... and I'm going to have to get that HSC outta GC. Grrr!

The more I play it, the more I think this is a great cross between a hotrodded Telecaster and Les Paul Classic. The Seymour Duncan pickups have a huge amount of warm gain that hit me in the face as soon as I unplugged my Tele and put the Axis SS back in. I take back the comment about looking at this guitar as a Strat or Les Paul Standard replacement (it's not smooth enough IMO), but no one in their right mind who hears this next to a Telecaster or Les Paul Classic would spend the extra on the LP or put up with the limits of the Tele unless they're a sucker for the Gibson/Fender images or names.

I just can't put it down!

A hardy WELCOME to both of these new forum members and congratulations on the purchases of their fine guitars.
If GC gave you an Insane Screamin' deal on the axis then it would be OK to offer them $50 for the case. Otherwise, they do come from the factory with cases. BP had a chat with GC a while back and they have been doing better about that. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the comments. Can't... type... much... need... to... play... more.......

The price I paid was their cost +16% so I wasn't walking out the door with such a tremendous bargain when you look at it that way. The sales rep said they could go as low as +10%, then said he couldn't do that and 15-mo. financing. I agreed to that, but then he tried to nail me another $90 for the case. The gig bag is pretty nice, and he gave me that for $40 (from $80) but dammit I want my OHSC!!!

Update/edit: I just spoke with the department manager and he said that they'd gladly give me the case that I should have received yesterday.

Good deal. They all leave with a case from SLO....so you shouldn't have to pay for it.
