George here left SLO with the tort guard, but I think its orange swirl (Pickguard Heaven/Chandler "Tiramisu") FTW. What do you think?

Nice ad! I dont know that you should compare the Bongo to the Big Al...The one thing in common they have is that they are capable of so much...you just really have to experiment around I still find sounds on my Big Al's that kill me and even my single H bongos...I was driving Craig crazy the other day playing some strange tones over the phone If you pick these up and dime them both you wont get it at all...I have fought this battle the who history of both basses...with the big al in passive I dont dime the tone control very often WIth Fenders I always did. That passive tone control is very interesting.

+100 BP.

The fact that the BA and Bongo do not directly compare is one of the reasons I got the BA. I've seen several posts about the BA basically having the Bongo preamp but I think that's misleading even if it is true (I doubt it). This is a really different animal.

I spent the requisite couple of hours poking, prodding and exploring last night. Huge territory here, and as you say… like the Bongo if you crank things up beyond reason craziness occurs. Loving the passive tone for some songs -- I'm turning it down a fair bit for Motown and soul -- and the active is very aggressive. John Entwistle would have liked this bass, I think.
